Sort of related.

Why the big stink over chemical weapons?

I mean, we are basically saying "If you don't quit using chemical weapons we will be forced to take military action. Please just go back to shooting your citizens with HCAW".

Isn't that a bit silly?

Whether Syria is actually breaking any international laws is up for interpretation though, since its being used within its own borders, but I believe that is the reasoning.
