I know many of you play in specialty leagues which affects how you pick players.  But in general, do you prefer:

Cheap deadball pitchers make power hitters since 1930 or so very poor values-- at least in open leagues.

In OL's you can do quite well without speed OR power, considering the majority of your opponents will have deadball pitchers and A+ armed catchers.

Speed all the way unless deadballers are somehow banned.

I agree that speed is what wins most OL's -- but only because speed is what most owners draft.  I did fine with this team in Coors (approx. 200 HR, and exactly 0 stolen bases):

You can absolutely win with HRs in an OL, but for the most part not with modern sluggers from the 90s and 00s.  You need guys from years where the HRs normalize very well.  I just made the World Series with a team in AFCS built around 2 Cravaths and the 46 Greenberg.  Ruth's cheaper seasons, 23 Cy Williams, 99 Buck Freeman, 22 Tilly Walker, and others also tend to do well.  There are also some pretty good HR-normalizing years from the 60s-80s...try 1989 for instance.

I agree you can.  However against very good and quite affordable deadballers like '08 Joss and '08 Mathewson, you'll be at a disadvantage.
