Sure, I'm fine with not using them. They are a terribly stupid stat. Burnsy brought up the 300 win milestone. I said there really isn't a difference between a 300 game winner and a 270 game winner. Negligible, so small or unimportant as to be not worth considering.
give ten percent of your annual income to us. not to that other guy. although the other guy gets major credit for being first in line.

neg·li·gi·ble
'neglij?b?l/
adjective

  1. 1.
so small or unimportant as to be not worth considering; insignificant.
This is about as 'wHaCk' as it gets... Simple math... 300 W's,
& 270 W's is a 'LARGE' 10% difference...

Since U claim it's 'neglij?b?l/', then defer 10% of your monthly
income 2 me... Prove it's 'neglij?b?l/', in 6 months time... Put
your money where your dumb mouth is, & cough it up 2 me...

Better yet, change your life, & give the 10% 'neglij?b?l/' money
2 God, instead... Or, is it really that 'neglij/?b?l/' ???... Jerk-off...
will someone please finally flush the bad-luck poster clown out of baseball threads, and back into some other sewer system far, far away?

we have gone over this thread today, and more than once is too much. everyone else here has it right, and on the topic of thread founder burnsy483. the actual aspects of a baseball players career, that sportswriters traditionally look at and review. the hall of fame has an entirely different approach. it in no way is based on war. no matter how much worse bad_luck's case gets, he just keeps making it even worse.

everyone else here, from miket23, mfahie, rsp777, tecwrg, 05nomar05, evil_twin, antoncresten, and thetaint, each and every one of them focus on what it takes to be in the hall of fame, and they all stay on topic, and they all get it right. dead on.

bad luck belongs to bad_luck only. war has nothing to do with the hall of fame, and it has nothing to do with all of the other threads where bad_luck constantly shows every brain cell in his peanut-shell of an a$$. get your war crap out of this hall of fame thread. u waste time.

Uhhh... Ummm... Wait a mint, here... (???)...

He is making his point quite clear... Implying
that BRuth is 2 MMusina's, according 2 war...

Or, that BRuth is 2 APettite's... Whichever (?)

That's all ???... 2 APettite's would be nice,
maybe, but, 1 BRuth is in the Hall-Of-Fame,
& even if there were 2 APettite's, it still would
not let either APettite into the Hall...

Buncha' bull, that *******WAR !!!...

Just saying wins aren't as trivial as you make them out to be.   They sort of determine who plays in October.

Hell, your Godstat has "wins" in it.
No ****, sherlock. Team wins matter a shitload. But we aren't talking about team wins. Try to keep up.
Right.  Team wins just magically happen with or without good pitchers.

As of 2008 29 of 803 20 game winners had era+ of less than 100. 13 of those 29 were 99 or 98. It's hard to win 20 without being a very good pitcher. Wins are not as overrated as some would lead you to believe.

That's kind of the point. Pitcher wins don't allow you to separate pitcher performance from team performance. You know you won, you know the pitcher got the win, you don't know if he was good or not.

There's absolutely a correlation between pitchers who get a lot of wins and good pitchers, but the stat is horrible.

Then you want to take this horrible, imprecise stat and use it to evaluate two pitchers when the win difference between them works out to be 2 or 3 pitcher wins a season.

did some fairy-tale characters leave u a trail of oreo crumbs, to guide and lead u along this shortcut, to this discovery?

no matter what they tell u, u are still very, very lost. a world of horrifying stats that make sportswriters look dumb. your claim to horrifying fame as a discoverer is firmly denied. u have thirty days to file an appeal.

u can't use cy young in your appeal though. your dumb, imprecise analysis of baseball stats, has u declaring that 2 andy pettites are worth more than one cy young, from the old black and white photo days. am sure u also have a better name for that annual award, than hls name.

quit. not a four-letter word. a notion that will save your horrifying butt. store your brains elsewhere.

It SHOULD be named the "Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander" award and NOT the Cy Young, but that's a different argument. Cy was the 2nd best pitcher of all-time behind ole' Pete, but I digress.......either way, Pettite should NEVER have a SNIFF of the HOF. Much as Blyleven before him. But again, that's another argument. Compare Blyleven to Mussina to Glavine and see what you think. I think NONE of them get in and that Glavine is the most deserving of the three, but I'm an *******...
9/21/2013 3:17 AM
Blyleven = Nolan Ryan Light = No HOF. Ryan deserves to get in because of his simple "electricity" for lack of a better term. But as for Blyleven-Mussina-Pettite = Very Good Pitchers but again, it's NOT the Hall of "Very Good". It should be reserved for the VERY ELITE, of which those three don't qualify by even the most basic of layman standards.

Good pitchers tend to win a lot of games.

Yep

But pitching wins are not important, right?
