St. Mary's TX and Limestone will be playing in the Yarnell, so we have to have match up Heartland #1 vs. CVAC #2 and Heartland #2 vs. CVAC #1.  In addition, Drury and W. Hopefully I can get the heartland off to a good start, I was expecting to blow by an easy non-con but my best player went down with an industry on a pretty thin squad. BOL to all in the challenge!

W Florida 45, Barton 43: An extremely competitive game marked the start of Challenge 69. Both teams came in slowdown, when combined with good defense made every basket precious. Fussyd and W Florida rode Jason Smoak's game-high 17 points to a two-point win. Barton's free throw shooting betrayed them and may have been the difference, going only 9 of 16 from the charity stripe..

Montevallo 81, St Andrews 71: The Mont overcame a 9 point halftime deficit by blistering the nets in the second half for 49 points, aided by 23 of 28 free throw shooting. Yaklyn68 of St Andrews gave the refs an earful after the game, as home court advantage may have decided this one via 17 second half fouls called against St Andrews' zone defense. Vasily Gregorski managed 19 & 10 for Montevallo. Keith Hysell's game-high 20 led St Andrews in a non-winning effort.

Heartland grabs a 2-0 lead.
12/31/2013 7:23 AM
Mount Olive 71, Rockhurst 51: Rockhurst grabbed an 8-0 lead, but Mount Olive Olive dominated thereafter, coasting to a 20 point win. Mount Olive's guard trio of Hatfield, Thornburg, and Bonner all scored in double digits but also had help from big man Thomas Webster's 12 & 11. Rockhurst was held to less than 33% shooting, including 21% from 3. Ronald Gray led Rockhurst with 13.

Incarnate Word 106, Anderson 79: After an uneven start to the season, IW played to (or above) talent level and breezed to a 27 point win over Anderson. IW was led by Dee Washington's 28 points and shot 68% from 2 point range. William Richard had 17 for Anderson.

Heartland 3, CVAC 1

Pfeiffer 65, Valdosta St 57: Pfeiffer blazes away at 58% from the floor and beats previously undefeated Valdosta St by 8. Amos Sumner led Pfeiffer with 16 from the PG position.

Oklahoma Panhandle 56, Lees-McRae 53: OkPan held on for a 3 point win despite shooting less than 40% and losing the battle of the boards. Greg Loop and Raymond Coaxum each had a dozen, and went a combined 12 of 14 from the charity stripe.

Heartland 5, CVAC 3

Belmont Abbey 61, Drury 51: both teams were ice-cold during a first half defensive battle, combining for 39 points in the opening half. Belmont Abbey figured it out at halftime, out scoring Drury by 11 during the second half. Belmont Abbey's Reuben Prentiss led all scorers with 14. Drury couldn't find the range, going 33% from 2 for the game.

W Alabama 73, Coker 67: W Alabama does just enough and hangs on for a 6 point win over Coker. Richard Smithers supplied the scoring with 7 three-pointers for Bama, offsetting Joseph Arnold's 18 points and 11 boards.

St Edwards 67, Limestone 59: St Edwards won't he battle of the guard lineups, beating Limestone by 8. St Eds guards each reached double digits, combining for 41 and racking up 22 free throw attempts. Steven Murphy had 12 points and boards for Limestone.

St Mary's 82, Queens 60: St Mary's proved once again why they are one of the best programs in D-II with a convincing 22 point win over Queens. Aurelio Gallo made it rain with 25 for St Mary's. Christopher Treadwell had 19 off the bench for Queens.

Heartland 8, CVAC 4
Congrats to the Heartland!!
