These guys aren't even on my team, but I'm curious if someone can explain their declines:

Perez is 28 years old, has a 99 makeup, his team spent $20mm in training both in last season and this season and he lost 2 points in range,  a point in power, 1 point in arm accuracy.

Moya is 32 years old, has a 43 makeup, team spent $12mm in training last year and $11mm this year, and he lost only 1 point in range, and arm accuracy.

Does this make any sense?

Thanks

Perez - Waiver wire moves seem to **** them off. Or it could have been an injury w/o him being put on the DL.

Physical ratings (range, power, etc.) start to decline as early as 27, in my experience, though declines before 30 are not common.

The WW thing is a good point, too.....

I'd add that a 2 point drop from 80 is almost identical to a 1 point drop from 44.   Percentage-wise.

Ok but Moya is 4 years older.. why didn't Moya start to decline at age 28 then?

Because no two players follow the exact same pattern

It's unusual for a player to decline at 28.    But it happens from time to time.   I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't decline next season.

On the opposite end of the specturm is  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Ken Garcia. Because of his ultra slow decline, the slowest I have ever seen for a slugger, he has gone from simply being a likely HOF 3B to our world's all-time leading home run hitter.

Putting a player on revokable waivers does not do anything to their ratings.  As Perez's owner I know that it was only revokable waivers.

Power and Range are usually the first two things to go.  You will small declines of a point or two between the ages of 27 and 30.  Then, depending on makeup, around 32 they start falling off quickly.  They = Power and range.

I'm sure I could provide plenty of examples of players who didn't decline between 27 and 30 but it's rather pointless.    There are no absolutes wrt decline.   Until you get to 32.

I've tested revokable waivers about 100 times and believe it's true - no penalty.  I'm not 100% sure about irrevocable waivers or designating for assignment.

Ratings hits from waivers will show up under "time of claim".   You can waive all day and it doesn't matter unless the player is claimed, and taken, by another team.

Seems backwards to me.

"Hey SOMEONE thinks I'm worth having on their roster".

You'd think that'd be a GOOD thing, as compared to passing through waivers unclaimed by anyone...

I don't think there's any penalty even for irrevocable waivers or DFA-- if the guy clears waivers and gets assigned to the minors, then there can be a demotion penalty, but you you waive/DFA someone and he gets claimed and kept at the same level, I'm pretty sure there's no penalty with that.

For that matter-- no penalty with release, either, or you'd see it with all the arb guys that get released.
