They should settle ties with a QB accuracy competition. Imagine how fun it would be to see the look on a Jets or Giants fans face if his team went into OT.

Baseball also ensures that you have the exact same number of opportunities to score as your opponent, while football does not.

But so we're clear, you support ties in any sport that has a clock?

So you ARE in favor of baseball ties?
Is there a clock in baseball?
Why is 60 minutes sufficient to accomplish your goal of winning but 9 innings, well, maybe not?
Because football has a clock that is carefully managed, while baseball does not.

Sure, why not?

Average Eagles game:  140+ plays
Average Texans game:  128 plays

Boycott the Eagles, they're endangering players!!!!!   And dogs!!!!!
That's not even a 10% difference - hardly an extra quarter/half.
Averages always lower the numbers.   Pretty sure the average number of offensive plays ran by each team is somewhere near 60-65.   The high tempo team will run around 85-90.   30 extra is a half.

Averages are what they are.  Right now, SF is running the fewest plays per game this year at just under 60.  Looks like the average is right at 65.  Denver leads the league at 73.  8 extra offensive plays is about 12% extra, again, not even a quarter.

Fair enough.

Fair to say there's a chance Denver ran close to 90 a time or two?    And that SF ran 50ish a few times?      If so, Denver's highest/SF's lowest is almost an entire game's worth of extra plays.

Don't watch Denver. They endanger players with all that extra football!!!!    BAN THE NO HUDDLE OFFENSE!!!!!

Sure, but then that would also mean that they ran a lot fewer than 73 in other games.  That's how averages work.

But that's ultimately a rabbit trail, since I haven't said and won't say that indefinite overtime in the regular season is some egregious endangerment of players.  My original statement was pointed at its impacts on their ability to compete in subsequent weeks.  And even that I don't consider to be patently unfair or something, I just think its unnecessary in the regular season, so why do it?

Same reason you have extra innings in baseball.   Unless you don't think extra innings stresses a pitching staff.    An extra 15-20 minutes of standing around doesn't hurt anyone.  It's the extra plays that matter.  And, as you now know, the number of plays ran in each game already varies.

I like the old system with one rule change, the Visiting team gets the ball at the start of overtime. ( no coin flip) or you could have a colin flip at the end of the 3rd quarter.
This way it  makes the decision to go for 1 0r 2  (or in some cases a FG or a TD) easier on the coaches.  Still can't figure out why the Bengals didn't go for 2 in that game against the Ravens.
