How should regular season games that are tied at the end of regulation be resolved?

Kickers strip down to their underwear and battle it out on the 50 yard line.

Only you would bring semi-naked men into the conversation.

Well played.

I do miss the old XFL "race for the ball" to start each game. NFL needs more gimmicks!

College system, but start at the 50

The college system is horrible.  I'd rather see games end in a tie than be decided by a gimmick.

It's fun to watch but it;s like ending baseball games with a HR Derby.   Especially the 3rd OT when you have to go for 2.

I guess I don't understand the NEED to have a winner and a loser.  If one can't be determined in 60 minutes of regulation, plus an additional OT period, what's wrong with a tie in the regular season?

Are you European?    Have you ever watched a game and said "Wow.  That was great.  A TIE!!!"?

Would you be in favor of tie games in baseball?

I'm not European, and I would not want ties in baseball.

But I have no problem with ties in football.

Have you watched a great game and thought "It's a shame for either team to have to lose today"?  Or, on the flip side "Neither team deserves to win this one"?

If neither team can score at the end of one OT, neither team deserves to win.  Ties are fine.

Football is different than baseball in the sense that fatigue would likely come into play more than in baseball.  A 2nd OT would just become sloppier.

Fatigue would come into play more in baseball?   Huh?

You missed a word.

Ties suck, but with the time limit we get, what, 1 every several years?  I think given the nature of the game, at some point you just have to stop unless a decision is required to move forward, as in the playoffs.  I prefer the new system, though I wouldn't object to going back to the old system in the regular season to make sure the only way you get a tie is if no one scores.

Honestly, all sports get sloppier the longer the game goes.    In baseball, you have a back-up SS pitching in the 14th.   Basketball, the guy who averages 2 mpg suddenly plays 12.     As for "more important", what's a bigger impact on who makes the post-season?  A tie in a 16, 81 or 162 game schedule?
