It's easily observed that a fielder's arm is important to the shortstop and second baseman positions and that throwing accuracy is important to these and third basemen too.

But I have noticed little impact in catchers, of their having a much better than average arm, compared to an average arm (maybe the same with throwing accuracy).

And I have seen no difference that I detect, when it comes to outfielders' arms and accuracy.

Has anyone collected any data that shows any differences, there?

Would be interesting to see.

StatsAwards/StatLeague Leaders/fielding/extended. Sort by % caught stealing.

Reports/Player search. Search by ML, C.

Copy both into Excel. From the catcher database, add arm strength and accuracy, and sort highest to lowest.

Compare the two lists. You will probably see direct relationship between high as/ac and caught stealing. Any outliers are usually because of insufficient playing time to make the league leaders list.

You're welcome.

Someone seems to think I hadn't already done such a study and seen little correlation to catcher's arms or {arm + throwing accuracy} to actual results (in terms of percent of players thrown out, not just fewer attempts at stealing).  If I had seen a sensible correlation I wouldn't have wasted my time creating the top post.

If there's someone who wishes to ignore this forum's ankle-biting, I'll be interested in comparing notes.

It's not ankle biting.
I did Coop, and nine of the top ten in AS/AA were completely in the top 20 for CS%. The outlier did not have enough playing time to make the leaders list.

So, the question back to you is, what would you expect to be reasonable? Because I find that very reasonable in a pool of 64ish catchers.
