Six Drafts - Winter Tournament, Win $100! (Full) Topic

I am afraid I do not completely understand.  I would like to play three seasons.  Do I select them?  If so, I will take 1977, 1994 and 2013.

First choice is 1994

If you don't want to select your own season, you have to wait until all 18 seasons are selected, then you can sign up.

I'll take 1953

This will be an adventure. Put me down for 1930.

It doesn't really matter what year you pick.  You just have to out-draft the other three people that will be in your league.  Making the playoffs gets you to round 2.   We need 5 more people to jump in and select a season, then I imagine things will start to fill up quickly as many of us will be selecting a second and third team.

Six Drafts Tournament - Franchise Edition
1st = $200, 2nd = $100.

The "Six Drafts" concept is becoming very popular.  It’s where 24 owners are divided into six groups of four and each group holds its own 4-person draft.  Each group of four owners will play in a division together and is drafting from its own unique subset of players.  These drafts run very quickly (3-4 rounds per day) and there’s enough talent for everybody to have a decent team.  The Six Drafts Winter Tournament drafted from specific seasons.  This edition of Six Drafts will be drafting a franchise.

Salary Cap: $100 Million

Round 1
There will be four leagues running simultaneously. That means there will be 24 different drafts (6 per league).  These 24 drafts represent the 24 MLB franchises in existence in 1969.  In other words, each division will consist of 4 owners who drafted players from one specific franchise.

Owners may sign up for up to four teams, no more than one team per league, and also make sure not to select teams in the same division.  For example, if you select STL (league 1), you cannot select CIN (league 2), PIT (league 3) or CUBS (league 4) since all four of these teams will play in the NL Central (in round 2).  But you could select PHI (league 2, NL East), KC (league 3, AL Central) and TEX (league 4, AL West).

I grouped the teams into the four leagues, based on geographical location and cumulative W-L% in the years 1969-2013.  So League #1 has the "best" franchises (Atl, StL, LAD, NYY, ChW, Oak).  League #4 has the "worst" franchises (Mon/Wash, ChC, SD, Cle, Mil, Tex).  Milwaukee will be considered an A.L. team.

Here is how the teams will be aligned.

Division League #1 League #2 League #3 League #4
------------------ ------------------------ ------------------------ ------------------------ ------------------------
NL East Atlanta Philadelphia NY Mets Mont/Wash
NL Central St. Louis Cincinnati Pittsburgh Chi Cubs
NL West LA Dodgers San Francisco Houston San Diego
AL East NY Yankees Boston Baltimore Cleveland
AL Central Chi W.Sox Detroit Kansas City Milwaukee
AL West Oakland LA Angels Minnesota Texas

Round 2
Each division winner from round 1 will advance to round 2.  That's 24 teams.  The round 2 alignment is based on the above chart. (i.e., NYY, Bos, Bal, Cle will play in the AL East).

Prizes:
sgsmith is taking some time off from WIS and has generously donated $170 of his credits.  I am also adding $80.  I anticipate admin will add $50 for the five leagues.  The World Series champ of round 2 wins $200. The runner-up gets $100.

Drafting Rules
Once four people sign up for a franchise, I will post the draft order and then they can start drafting.  The draft will be a 26-round draft (including ballpark).  If there are fewer than 4 ballparks, then each ballpark can be used at most twice.  If there is only one ballpark (i.e., Fenway Park), well there's your 26th round pick.  Renamed parks with the same dimensions count as a single park.  Once a player is selected, all versions of that player are off the board for the other three drafters.  The drafter does NOT have to specify which season of the drafted player he is using until he submits his roster.

The draft order will be determined randomly and it will be a snake draft (1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1, 1-2-3-4, etc.).
The drafts won’t be on a timed schedule initially, but if a draft is running very slowly, I reserve the right to come in and set up a schedule to keep things moving (we should get at least 3 rounds done per day).

If I had another team available right now, I'd take a second team and grab either 1944 or 1945.  I always thought a draft during one of those two "war years" would be interesting, with all of the big names off fighting.  Probably get to see some guys we've never used before.

We have 18 people signed up but two have yet to pick their season. Do we have the green light to start joining one of these 18 divisions or do we need to wait until all 18 seasons have been selected?

I'll site-mail njbigwig asking him to select his season ASAP (mpitt76 took 2011).  For those who don't already have a team, they can pick ONE season now.  But you can't pick more than one until you know the alignment as I don't want one person with two teams in the same league.
