Job logic: why HD is terminally ill Topic

In Iba D1, 5 premium programs have become available at one time. Ironically, I'm not leaving mine but I was curious to see what I qualified for. I have 23 NT appearances in 28 seasons. I have won a PI and been runner up in one. I have won 6 of my last 7 regular season conference titles. I am an A- prestige in a Big 6 conference. Season before last as a #9 seed, I beat the #1 seed in the NT.

Not qualified for all but one, which was an A prestige keep looking!

So now we will add a host of sim teams to our major conferences. Programs like mine won't open up for the successful mid majors to advance. And the exodus of good coaches from D1 back to D2 or out of the game entirely will continue. Losing coaches can't be good when you have 300+ vacancies in D3 in some worlds.

The game itself is still remarkably designed, sound and terrific fun, even without any of the tweaks we've all asked be considered. But the glass ceiling impeding coaching advancement is deflating and creating a clear and statistical picture of HD's future.

I don't have a problem with requiring excellence to nab an elite program. Your resume is very solid, you've been consistently good, but not excellent. Other reasonable minds might disagree, and say that the sustained solidness should count for enough to land a premium program.

Even though I think the jobs process could certainly be improved upon, I don't think an inability to reach power conferences is one of the main problems. The power conferences are generally very close to full all the time. I actually think the better fix would be how they deal with non-BCS programs once people leave -- those need to be made more accessible to good D2 and lower DI coaches. As it stands now they simply go to rot after a coach moves up, and to me, that's by far the biggest problem with the DI jobs process.

Girt, you really think I'm not qualified for an A prestige program that has been to the NT 2 or 3 times in the last 30 seasons? In the real world that school would be recruiting me! I guess the Butler coach going to the BOSTON CELTICS was a result of him not qualifying for a A+ prestige job in D1.

I appreciate your evaluation  of my resume. It is that perspective that is going to send me back to D2 before the Big East is half sim.

This is the resume for the Real Life head coach of University of Maryland. Surprised they didn't laugh him out of the gym when he applied.

I think these jobs should go to the best available human coach who applies, as long as some minimum threshold (different for different levels and baseline prestige) is met. For an A+ baseline job, there should certainly be significant requirements, but 600+ wins at a good % and a recent resume with 4 straight NTs (in the same conference) should be a good fit if there's nobody better to apply.

that said, if they revamp the jobs logic, they'd also need to revamp firings, so that mediocrity wouldn't maintain a job at an elite.

2012–13 FIU 18–14 11–9 5th (East)

This is the career coaching record of the U of MN Gophers coach when he was hired. 18 total wins, at any level.

Okay, so his name is Pitino; whatever.

How about only A+'s can apply for A+ jobs the first 3 cycles, after that then A's for 3 cycles, then A-'s for the last cycles. Requirements being 4 years tenure with the existing school and no losing record in the 4 years. You have baseline prestige anyway. It'll still take progressive movement to get from Coppin State to UCLA.

Anybody with decent stats in D1 should qualify for any B+ job and below. You'll have multiple applications for positions and competition. The best applicant will get it.
Sims in high places will kill us.

As someone who has played at, and won at, the highest levels of D1, my opinion is that your resume should be fully qualified to get you accepted to any school with an open coaching position in that world.

dcy, thanks for that. I'm concerned about how many folks out there are past the point of frustration with this. I'm lucky I'm at a program I want to stay with. We now have 10 sims out of 72 teams in Iba Big 6 conferences. And I would hazard a guess that no one under A+ is eligible for 5 of them and there are no mid majors eligible for any of them. Defending national champs are going to be a sim team.

Most recent updates, changes and improvements

Changes within the last 90 days...

There are no Hoops Dynasty updates for the past 90 days. (probably more like 180)

The job logic is obviously ridiculous.  but based on the amount of work being done to attend to this game I think we are venting on deaf ears.

Mark Turgeon had a decent resume going to Maryland, but he also had contacts in the basketball world to help him out -- like Larry Brown.  (He was Brown's PG back when Brown first got to Kansas).

That may not be something HD can emulate.

That's actually something I like to see.  Unless they're fixing major problems, I don't want to see them screwing around trying to change things all the time.
