MAD SCIENTIST LEAGUE *FULL* Topic

Now that the New Year is upon us I have this strange urge to return to the laboratory',

This is the result.  Call me crazy. Call me insane. Call me irresponsible.  BUT, I give to you:

THE MAD SCIENTIST LEAGUE

Here is how it will work:

THE LAB:

When joining you must choose a season and team (example: 1927 Yankees).  This is your laboratory.  There will be a "seven year" bubble around your team.  No one else can claim the same team from three years prior or three years later than your chosen year. (Example: 1927 Yankees: 1924 to 1930 Yankees exclusive.)  Teams before 1888 and after 2010 will have a reduced bubble.

THE MAD SCIENTIST:

Choose one player on your chosen team to be your "Mad Scientist".  Choose wisely.  Will he be a catcher, a closer, a star or a scrub?  You will only have one version of this player.

THE CLONES:

Now choose six players on your team to be cloned.  Each must be cloned three times.  You may choose any season during their career.  They don't have to be from the "seven year" bubble. All six players must be on your roster (Example: 1927 Yankees: There will be seven 1927 Yankees on your team.)  Do you clone two or three pitchers?  What will you do with four catchers?

THE BATTLE FIELD:

Where will you fight this "Clone War" ?  You must use the stadium your chosen team used if available.  Use one from your chosen year if not.

It's not exactly rocket science, but if you have any question don't be afraid to ask.

Put on your lab coat and let's get cloning!!!

Mike,
So you have a "Mad Scientist" and 6 cloned team mates, which would make 19 ... do the other 6 players come from any season and any team?

You have your "Mad Scientist" + 6 team mates. Each cloned three times.

So the math would be 1 + 6  + (3 X 6) = 25

There are in essence 7 players names.  Scientifically speaking the first six  original subjects are NOT clones only their 18 copies.

fatboydad -- I will give this a go with the 1929 Jimmie Foxx as my Mad Scientist !!!!!

Wouldnt it be better if your Mad Scientist could NOT be used *in any way* by the rest of the league?

If I use Babe Ruth as my MS then a number of teams in the league could be able to have 4 Babe Ruths on their teams, right?

I thought of that but if I use that rule, you may have to keep changing your team every time someone chooses a player you want to clone.

I would have to make the whole roster for the "Mad Scientist" team exclusive. Would that be fair?

The secret I think is to pick a lesser player as your "Mad Scientist". Not Babe Ruth.

Thanks for getting the "Clone Wars" started Darth CSRB1980.

Remember you must have have 1929 Jimmie Foxx and six other 1929 Philadelphia Athletics on your team.

You can't clone Jimmie Foxx, though. There is no rule that says your "Mad Scientist" can't be a scrub. Just a suggestion.

On second thought - give me 2005 Adam Everett please

I really love this idea. I would like to claim 1926 Hi Bell as my mad scientist. (I don't know for sure that he will work but it seems a good place to start)

If I read this right, you'd end up with SEVEN players from one season (the season of your mad scientist),.... right?

Pencil me in for 1910 Cotton Knaupp

That is correct.

Kings_Kid sent a good question via site mail.  Your clones do NOT need to come from the "seven year" bubble.

The bubble is there to try and keep some diversity in the teams.

Clones from other teams may be from teams in the bubble.(Example:  You have 1927 Yankees.  Some one could choose 1931 Yankees as there "laboratory" and have a 1927 Lou Gehrig clone on his team.

Players are NOT exclusive, now.  Just teams inside their "seven year" bubble.
