3 major jobs open in the same off season Topic

Pretty crazy that 3 of the all time great programs (USC, PSU, UT) all had vacancies this offseason and Texas and Penn State are still pending, which could shake things up even more.  Additionally, Gus Malzahn has been rumored for some of the NFL vacancies, which could open up Auburn, which while not historically on that level, certainly has been a great program the last 10 years or so.  Mora might leave UCLA for Texas opening another second level school (like Washington when Sark left).  I don't recall a time when this many top or near top level programs were open in the same off season.

Too much money at stake for schools to putz around at 6-6, 7-5 while a coach builds a program.

Mora just signed a pretty hefty extension a few weeks ago.
He had also claimed (in a past life) that UW was his dream job and that he would have jumped ship from the Falcons for it, but then did not jump ship for UCLA when it came open, so I would bet he isn't jumping from UCLA for Texas, at the moment.

When does Petrino get another shot at a bigger school?

8-4 at W Kentucky has to garner some interest.

You wanna pay that nut millions and hope he doesn't pick up co-eds?

looks like Strong is going to coach Texas, at least if the reports are to be believed.

Strong has accepted the Texas job.  Bob Stoops is apparently the top candidate of the Browns ownership, though he hasn't interviewed for the job.

Petrino back to Louisville.  It appears Penn State will hire Franklin from Vanderbilt.

Petrino landed in Louisville for about 2 seasons.    Then it's on to a big program again.

Vanderbilt will get kicked back into the SEC Dark Ages.

The potential Franklin hiring at Penn State does seem a bit odd given Franklin's potential involvement at the rape trial of 4 former Vanderbilt football players and Franklin's comments about assistants needing hot wives to even be considered for the job.  Normally not huge issues, but Penn State does have a bit of an image problem and that should at least give them pause on Franklin.

Maybe not.  10m buyout in Petrino's contract.   Somebody will really, really have to want him to pay that.

The "need hot wives" is old baseball scout-speak.  Scouts used to (maybe still do) put a fair amount of weight into how hot a player's girlfriend is.  The thinking is that it takes a great deal of confidence to ask a gorgeous woman out, and that level of confidence is necessary to deal with the high failure rate in baseball.
