Do you often wonder why some of your favorite players have not yet made the Hall of Fame?
Welcome to the Door Knockers Twist. This is the second season in what will hopefully be a series of simple twist leagues based on different rankings from the show MLB Network Countown, on the MLB Network. Season one was called The Intimidator Twist, with the playoffs currently under way.
Step 1- Choose a player from MLB Network’s list of the top 40 players who have not made the Hall of Fame*. I refer to these players as Door Knockers because they’re figuratively knocking on the door of the Hall of Fame.
Step 2- identify your Door Knocker's debut game and final game (found via hyper links listed on all player pages at baseball-reference.com) and claim your unique Door Knocker in the Forums by referencing his name next to the teams that played in the Door Knocker’s debut game and final game. If you choose a Door Knocker that is still active, then for purposes of this league, consider his last regular season game played from last season as his final game. It’s first come first serve. The Door Knocker you select is unique, but only as a basis for your team, and not as a player in the league. That is to say that if I select Mark Grace as my Door Knocker, other owners may still roster Grace if he is part of their player pool.
Step 3 - Create a team using any player from any of the four teams that played in your Door Knocker’s debut game and final game, twisted to any year of their career. Your player pool is not limited to players that actually played in the debut game and final game. You may select any player that appears on the rosters for the teams that played in the debut game and final game.
Step 4- Make sure your Door Knocker is on your team.
Step 5- Your home stadium must be one of the home stadiums of one of the four teams in your player pool.
Step-6 The Buck stops here- Although Buck O’Neil is rightfully named in the list below, he is not eligible to select as your Door Knocker as his debut records are unclear.
*This List of the top 40 door knockers was created in 2012
