URAPP needs one: High draft choice probably. Topic

The Ultimate Random as Possible Progressive is getting ready to enter its sixth season. We have the need to replace one owner.

The short version of the rules are that each season you get a random year from each of your players, so you could get Michael Jordan as a Bull, a Wizard, or a Birmingham Baron. We use www.basketball-reference.com to determine available seasons for players, so guys who having missing seasons (from injury, like Derrick Rose, retirement, like Kermit Washington, or playing baseball like MJ) could draw those seasons. There is a supplemental IR draft at the end of each draft to fill out your roster if you draw a season like that.

At the end of each season, two players are drawn randomly, from www.random.org, to leave your team via free agency. Season one's champion tragically lost Wilt Chamberlain. This keeps great players always in the mix. Some notables for this season's free agency class are Wilt Chamberlain, Kevin Durant, Dennis Rodman and Clyde Drexler.

The draft order is also determined randomly, with each of the twelve nonplayoff teams getting a spot determined on a sliding scale that starts at 25% for the team with the worst record, so this makes tanking undesirable, as you could both not get a good draft spot and lose your best player anyways.

If you have any questions or want to join, feel free to post below or shoot me a sitemail.

The roster will be on the next post.

I may be interested in that second team.  What happens if you end up with like 15000 minutes from your random seasons? You're just screwed?

Also: I'm assuming you don't find out which seasons you have for a specific year until after the draft?

also: can you cut players?

You are correct on all fronts. Players who draw less than 500 minutes are eligible to be replaced in the IR draft. And some owners draw ridiculous minutes and can/will make trades to help out. But I don't think we've ever had it happen that bad in 4 seasons. Thanks for the interest!

FWIW, the teams in this League can improve or drop greatly from any season to the next.  An example is Wilt being a random FA for the 2nd time in 4 seasons, with guys like Moses, Rodman, Parish, Ben Wallace, Kevin Porter, Gilmore, Harden, and Marques Johnson (and plenty of others) also FAs and in the Draft.  Plus, there is always the chance of getting a crap year for your superstar, or that one huge season from your nobody.  masterdebate runs a great League, with a quick season-to-season turnaround.

I'll take the Billups/Pippen/Bird team.

Still looking for one, this league has a great group of owners and every season is fun. Teams can make rapid turn arounds and everyone has a chance. Except me, of course.

Still need one owner. You could have Kareem and Wilt or Kareem and Moses etc.

I am interested in last remaining team. How are the ramdom years for each player chosen?
4/15/2014 9:03 AM
I go to random.org and type in each player's career range, so Gary Payton, for example played from 1990-91 to 2006-07, so I would go from 1990 to 2006 and take whatever year comes up.
