Former AA gold glove award winner
Carlton Karros was signed by the Pittsburgh Jack Sparrows (Riley) yesterday. The 44 yo 1st baseman has been out of professional baseball for 11 seasons, yet he has refused to retire. Rookie League bench coach Russ Rogers hasn't slept in 2 days and with the demands of ownership to start him and has decided to stand in front of a pitching machine.
Karros, who went to stand up at the press conference and accept his jersey, collapsed from exhaustion and injured his hip. As a result, the Jack Sparrows have set up the bullpen cart to be next to the dug out so they can stretcher him out to the plate for his at bats.
"This is the best day of my life", quoted Karros reading from his statement using his trifocals and talking through his ventilator. "I can't wait to show the world what I got!"
The Jack Sparrows will be starting their season in Viera, Florida against the Obamas.
