Self Evals: Grade Yourself as an HD Coach Topic

oldave, thanks for some great stuff on this thread.  By the way your welcome for my Whittier team. I got a chance to jump to D2 CSU Los Angeles which I couldn't pass up. Otherwise I would have stayed at Whittier. Thank everybody for the great contributions on this thread. Let's see some more.

Thank you thank you a million times thank you, coachV.

You left that Whittier team in awesome shape. I loved those players. I think just one left now... Jack Scott who you RSed your last season and he is a beaast. I've got a young team this year but I think he could carry us to a sweet 16ish season (HD gods willing)

Weird thing is I applied for Martin Luther but youngresorter got it. Couldn't have worked out better for me. Great group of guys in the conference too ... hurt to lose aitb but we've got some good ones the last couple of seasons to offset his "defection" ;-)

Hope it's going well at csula.

Aitb is arsengenious.
Pretty sure alblack is just alblack. Always gets my vote for classiest HD coach of all time.

Oops... if that sounds like a slight to aitb I don't mean that. I love aitb.. He can be almost as grumpy and ornery and pessimistic as me... almost.

But alblack is alblack.

I'll be interested to read that post! Love those low work ethic player development posts people put up from time to time.
I have a 8 WE guy on my Creighton team. He has improved 5 points including 1 WE.
A freshman? Is he starting for you?
Sorry, haven't been on forums in a couple days. No he's not starting, but first off the bench at PF and 2nd off bench at C.  Yes freshman.

I heard somewhere that WE skyrockets for those super-low WE guys when you start them. Just something to think about.

+1 to gillispie's response.  Allen Taylor on my Duke team went from 10-13 after starting all last season.

This guy came in as a 13 WE, after starting 3 years and 83 straight games he was a 29 WE.  I don't have records of growth each year, but it wasn't much WE growth

This is what I meant, though my "skyrocket" wording wasn't precise. I was thinking something like 50% growth per year started or something. IOW, Year 1 = 8WE-->12WE; Year 2 = 12WE-->18WE; Year 3 = 18WE-->27WE...

Sort of like compounding interest, by the end the WE would be significantly higher.

I am not sure what WE at the end of senior year would matter to me

This is true. And even if a player was redshirted, it wouldn't matter, since he still starts at the same baseline WE.

I should note, though, that in my hypothetical projections, I only went through year 3.
