Round 1 Themes Topic

Yeah, that's the toughest team to build, by far.  Very much looking forward to seeing who everyone chose...

The 90M team is a close second (as far as difficulty / amount of research).   I've probably tried 6-8 different teams.  I keep debating between deadball and non-deadball teams.  I think I've narrowed it down to 2 teams now.

The 100M theme has numerous different permutations also.

I built about 10 complete teams for the 80M league before I settled on one. I arrived at a 90M team fairly quickly but have spent the last week and a half trying to see if I could find a better one. No luck so far. The 110M has been the toughest one for me to work on.

$80M is a tough cap, I could've built some good teams for $85m or so. $90M is time consuming because nobody stands out, I have several teams in the draft center and can't rule any of them out. $100m was quick, I liked the first combination I tried and now I'm afraid to look at any others and find out they are just as good.

What does 300K Exception: N/A mean?
It means that the typical 300K exception is Not Applicable.  In some of the other themes, there is a special exception made for players whose salary is below 300K which doesn't follow the main restrictions of the theme (but in this case, all players on the team must adhere to the primary theme restrictions) but other than having to pick players between 1961 to 2013, it doesn't really allow you any more flexibility since these players are below $3m any ways.

So......
No players below $300,000 are allowed?
6/15/2014 7:51 AM
No, it means that as long as they are post-1961, they are already allowed, so no exception needed.

The contrast is with the 90M theme, where some under $300K players who would otherwise be illegal are allowed to fill out the roster. Especially for themes based on single teams, you sometimes need to weaken the rules for cheap players or it would be too hard to make a legal roster. That isn't true here, since it is such a flexible theme.

And the 80M theme has the exception too. I hadn't realised that, and now have to change my team again. That has been one tough theme to get right.

Thanks Brian for explaining this.

Question ($90M league): A pitcher played most of the season with one team after being traded. Can his "whole season" stats be used, or just the portion where he played with the team I use? Thanks.
6/17/2014 3:04 PM
The whole season is allowed. That's what the "Combined" means in the rules.

That's actually one of the clever ways to get a good set of players on a low win team.

$90M Q. Can I select a player that played for the team according to Baseball-reference.com, but did not have enough PAs/IP  to be in the sim and twist him?
6/24/2014 2:55 PM
Yes,
6/24/2014 3:00 PM
80M question - I assume the teammates have to be from a year you are using for the cloned pitcher, correct?
