Season 45 Wrap up – Season 45 is best described as a building year for the Highlanders. Only 2 players are lost to retirement at the end of the season and many young players started to develop as full season players. The team ended middle of the pack with 92 points and lost in the first round to expansion cousins Tecumseh Cheifs. The move towards youth and balanced statistics continues into season 46

Season 46 Wrap up – Season 46 saw continued development of players through the regular season. Finishing with 91 points gave the Cape Breton the number 7 seed going into the playoffs. In the playoffs the Highlanders were the surprise team in season 46, first knocking off the number 2 seed Portland Pond Pucks, followed by defeating the number 1 seed Tecumseh Chiefs. Their Cinderella run ended in the semi-finals losing to Encinitas blades. Season 46 saw the retirement of franchise player Lyle Mankola who finishes third in career points for the Highlanders. Barclay Ulven and cartoon hero Peter Puck were also lost to retirement. Season 46 also saw the emergence of youngsters Carl Rimm and Dr Pepper, who finished number 2 and number 6 in Calder Trophy voting.

Season 47 was a further season of growth for the Cape Breton Highlanders. 94 points in the regular season was good enough for the 7th seed in the Prince of Whales Conference. But in the playoffs the team took off, with a first round victory over Tecumseh chiefs, second round victory over Pontiac Firebirds, and a third round victory over Yorba Linda Yowlers. In the finals the Highlanders could not match the New York Junk Yard Dogs falling in 6 games.

Season 49 saw the Highlanders finish with 106 points and the 5th seed in the Prince of Whales conference. It was a tough 1 goal loss in game seven in the first round to Encinitas Blades. Car Gameon won the rookie of the year for goalies. In his final season franchise player Doug Antero was second overall in points scored and set a new Highlanders best with 37 goals in season 49. Antero retires as the all-time points leader for the Highlanders with 555 points in 772 games having played from seasons 31-49. Highlanders new franchise player is Pentti Sahakoski.

Season 51 was a record setting year for the Highlanders. Team records were set with 432 goals, 7 all-stars, and twelve 20 goal scorers. Connor MacLeod set team records for goals with 42 and points with 104. For the first time Highlanders were first in the Patrick division and their 432 goals led the league. Lost in the Finals to Halifax in the first all Nova Scotia final.

Thanks to Paul Seasons 55 and 56 were great seasons for the Cape Bretton franchise which relocated to Washington DC.
Paul's excellant GM skills made this team stocked with young talent. In season 55 we went to the finals but lost to the Winnipeg Ice Knights formerly Kigoma Hippos. but in Season 56 we brought home the franchises 2 nd Stanley Cup by beating my other team the NY Junk Yard Dogs
