Opinions on a Pitching Prospect Topic

This is a 21 year-old college prospect that I ranked number 1 but who did not fall to me as he went second in the draft.  He's an ace in most ways-- but has relatively terrible pitches:

  Dur St Con VsL VsR Ve GB P1 P2 P3 P4 P5
Current 33 64 69 78 78 46 39 63 63 23 0 0
Projected 37 74 88 93 100 51 42 72 77 32 0 0

Does anybody have experience with a pitcher with fantastic con/vsL/vsR but below average pitches?  What would you predict for this guy?

The higher the splits (particularly 90+) the less important P1-5 is, especially when combined with a high control rating.

He will still be very good.  I don't have time to go find you a reference, but if he develops and gets those first two pitches into the 70's, you'll have some monster years out of him.  But those pitches need to be in the 70s.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Homer Phillips came to mind because of weak pitches and "odd" splits.   His ratings aren't nearly as good as the guy you mention.   And he had some very good years.

Great control and splits... Both P1 andP2 were below 70 throughout his career.

'Ol Vic did just fine.

I think having 5 pitches helped him...but this guy did very well:
