So.. With the higher cap, did more people go for a higher percentage of cookies int the first round?
7/25/2014 6:39 PM
nope. I actually went for a lot of recent players as a change of pace.....40-122 record ahead?

I usually take about 1/3 players that I've used before and can usually keep in the first round (eg, Goose Goslin), 1/3 cookies that are almost always blocked in the first round (eg, Vida Blue) and 1/3 players that I haven't tried yet. This year I took about 50% cookies and therefore will have to be very lucky to get more than 10 players in rd. 1. It'll be worth it if one of them makes it through, because with the higher cap I'll be able to afford him. If None of them get through, At least I won't have to play against them.

I'm worried about losing 100+ games since I haven't played the baseball SIM in about a year or so. I guess the more blacklisted players for me meant I did a better job, lol.

I never played this league before but i picked the players that played into my stadium the best and for my cheap players I picked a lot of HOF in case I lose a couple of the regular guys i wanted.  I wouldn't be surprised if i only got 6 or 7 players

I ran an analysis I of the correlation between 1st round picks and winning pct and found no statistically significant relation. But I had only 48 observations, so I don't know what it's worth.

This will be my 4th consecutive season in Hilltop Park. In previous seasons we have been fortunate to get positive offensive production from our 1st round draft picks. Last season, although we did draft our entire starting line-up in the first round, we were nearly shutout on pitching and only got our #4 and #5 SP's (326 IP's) which ultimately led to a starting staff with 3rd round pick '72 Gaylord Perry as the ace. After almost writing the season off, Perry emerged as a true ace and posted a 22-11 record (41 G/GS) and a 4th place finish in the AL CY voting.

I underestimated Perry's effectiveness in Hilltop but I think his high available pitch count really made the difference. He was actually better in Hilltop then on the road which is surprising for a 1.14 park factor. But I think his performance supports the idea that the late round picks are just as important as the 1st round picks are.
