Season 111: Action in the A-10 Topic

Welcome coaches to the newly formed Atlantic 10 blog. I will be keeping track of the teams in the conference and giving my thoughts and views on how things will playout. From team previews, game forecast, and just plain deep ball action the Atlantic 10 is where it’s at! Those who don’t know me, names Anthony and user name is Tampafla. Obviously standing for Tampa, FL…I know creative bones in this body BE JEALOUS! Naturally a Boston boy at heart, whole families from that region of the good ole US of A.

Boston roots is the reason I left Morgan State to take over Northeastern. Dudes were offering big money and I had to cash in like Charlie Weis. Big bucks and no skills! Enough about me we will start things off later to tonight with previews of the upcoming games tomorrow. The headline being Northeastern taking on the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana. Should be a dandy of a season, can Deleware and Coach Brenner finally take down the evil empire in Coach Buck’s Minutemen? How they have been so dominant being such quick performers is beyond imagination.

Time to put or shut up ladies and gents. Season 111 in the Atlantic Ten and the Wilkinson D-1AA world is about to take off. Bold prediction #1 of the season…some team other than Jacksonville State wins the title! The steak ends in 111.

Awesome! Glad to see another blog starting up and I'm excited to read this throughout the season.

Season 111 in the Atlantic Ten could see some surprise teams to the rest of the Wilkinson world.  With three teams poised to make the playoffs and a team looking for a renaissance, the conference is hoping to establish itself as a force. The University of Massachusetts is without a doubt the projected favorite to win the conference. No one in the A-10 has been able to knock the Minutemen off of their perch for nine straight seasons. They have dominated the competition and are on an impressive streak of three straight seasons of at least advancing to the third round of the playoffs. Coaches around the country seem to overlook the guys from Amherst, with their best roster in years it may be time to give respect where it’s due.

Umass brings an 81 game conference winning streak into this season. Who is our projected team to have the best shot to end the streak? Hop in your car and travel down I-95 south for about five hours and you’ll run into that team’s home base. Delaware looks like a power in the northeast these days. Coach Brenner has crafted a roster ready to take the crown. The Blue Hens run a vaunted balanced attack hoping to take down every team in its way. Can they get done is the question, they certainly have the talent to do it. Two teams leading the way for this conference, with their best rosters in years, and ready to battle on June 1, 2015. Mark your calendars as this one will be a standout. Let’s take a Look at our picks for offensive and defensive players of the year.

Projected Offensive Player of Year
: Larry Chapman, Runningback, Delaware

This one was a tough one to pick. The Blue Hens senior quarterback Ronald McMillan and Massachusetts’ senior wide out Timothy Hall were also strongly considered for this pick. Chapman is our pick and is worth the price of admission to go see. The senior is ready to lead this team to the promise land and if Coach Brennner decides to feed the beast that could happen.  He will have to thank his offensive line if that happens, enjoying the luxury of a line featuring four senior starters. I think he’ll take that any day, it’s a runningbacks dream to run behind a big nasty senior line

Projected Defensive Player of the Year: Eric Holloway, Defensiveback, Massachusetts

We said how hard it was to pick the projected offensive player of the year, well that can’t be said on the other side of the ball. Holloway was a landslide pick and will look to shut down opposing receivers and anyone else who crosses his path. The guy is a crack back with the strength to completely knock someone out and the quickness to hawk down just about anyone. He is the prime example of what a true cornerback looks like. Last season he accounted for seventy tackles and ten interceptions. Eric could easily reach 15 interceptions this season and cement himself as one of best defensivebacks to play in the Atlantic ten in the last ten seasons.

Team Previews
:

Delaware:

Delaware should be a pretty formidable foe and force to be reckoned with. Coach Brenner has been quietly building the Blue Hens roster to compete for championships. The quarterback play in Newark could lead those crazy guys in blue to their first conference title appearance in ten seasons. First order of business is trying to take down the mighty Minutemen of UMASS. The schedule sets up nicely for Delaware taking on a few easier teams to work out any kinks. The big game out of conference will be a showdown with #12 East Tennessee State in Newark. Delaware has good chance to knock off the Buccaneers to set up a showdown with Northeastern. Delaware should get though that game and match-up with Umass for a battle of undefeated teams.

Projected Record- 12-1 (7-1) Losses: Massachusetts

Massachusetts:

After getting one for thumb last season for Coach Buck, UMass try’s to win an impressive tenth Atlantic Ten title in a row. The Minutemen will field one of their highest rosters in a few years and Coach Buck is looking to keep the gas pedal on full throttle. Umass seems to have the kinks worked out in the playoffs, accounting for all the playoff wins for the conference last season. Basically they are not afraid to carry the torch for the A-10 and do it with a smile. The big out of conference game is against #11 Drake in Amherst. This one will be close as the cupboard is full in Des Moines as well. Look for a close Minutemen escape in this one and a match up with Delaware for all the marbles.

Projected Record- 13-0 (8-0)

Northeastern:

Well it’s now or never for this team. After letting the assistants recruit for him in season one, Coach Tampafla took the reins and has accumulated some talent on the roster. The Huskies are still about a class away from really having a thought of winning the conference, and even then it may take a few more years with strong classes. The schedule does this team no justice and they’ll need to be on from the get go. They open up on the road against #24 Southeastern Louisiana, then tackle Youngstown State back in Boston. They will need to win one of these games as the next two are all likely losses against #21 Lafayette and Murray State. They should be able to compete and have a chance to knock off Austin Peay to close out of conference play. Immediately following that game they hook up with what should be an undefeated and ranked Delaware before seven simmys in conference play. The season could be a huge success or a disaster. We will go right in the middle with promise for the future.

Projected Record- 10-3 (7-1)

Villanova:

The Wildcats are looking to get back to where fans in Villanova feel the program should be. These guys are last team to hoist an Atlantic Ten trophy that doesn’t have the Massachusetts Minutemen’s name on it. Nova hired a new coach in Kas1007 who comes to build the boys in Villanova from Cheyney University. The administration liking what they saw in the young coach in the suburbs of Philadelphia. It’s not easy to win at school spoiled Coach Vivian C. Stinger’s women’s basketball run back in the day. Faculty still think it was just yesterday, news flash that was 1982! Coach Cubnation taking Cheyney to the third round is also shadows watching from affair. Kas1007 was able to overcome these burdens leading the wolves to two playoff berths. This season at Villanova maybe a struggle with very little talent to work with. The big out of conference game is against #12t Duquesne in Villanova. This one will be a blowout in favor of the Dukes. Nova will also face off and probably take two more big losses against Massachusetts and Delaware. If they can get by the easier teams on the schedule a winning record could be in store, that won’t be easily done though.

Projected Record- 8-5 (5-3)

Conference Championship Pick: Massachusetts vs. Northeastern

Winner: Massachusetts by 21.

5/23/2015 11:00 AM (edited)

Week 1:

Delaware vs. La Salle:

This one will not be close at all. Look for the Blue Hens to completely knock out the explorers. If Delaware does not win this game by at least 21 I will be shocked. Being the first real game of the season against an opponent who won’t have the horses to keep up, look for Brenner to keep it simple and get his boys the win.

Winner: Delaware by 28

Massachusetts vs. Valparaiso

Poor Poor valpo, I am sorry for what is about to happen to your Pioneers. Massachusetts will be on a mission. The conference is slowly improving and they are out prove quick that and title goes through Amherst. They have looked incredible in the pre-season and I would not expect that to change at all. Umass is just too powerful for this Valpo team to beat.

Winner: Massachusetts by 35

Northeastern at Southeastern Louisiana

This one could get interesting down in Hammond, Louisiana.  Both of these teams need to get the ball rolling early with tough schedules out of conference. The winner takes a step toward improvement and a playoff spot. The loser is back to the drawing board figuring out what went wrong. Louisiana has the more talented team and Coach Derek holds the 1-0 head to head record against Coach Tampa. Should be popcorn game.

Winner: Southeastern Louisiana by 5

Villanova at Southern-Baton Rouge

Coach Kas needs this win for his boy’s confidence. They have gone through a few rough seasons lately and could use a boost at the start of the season. Villanova went winless last season and Southern was a four win team. Needless to say each team’s fan bases are dying for win to open the season. Look for Coach Kas to be crowned the savior of the program after this game.

Winner: Villanova by 10

Week 1 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

Blue Hens become explorers and Explorers channel inner cerulean bird by laying an eggs. Delaware smacks La Salle to the tune of 33-7. Joseph White wins player of the game with 8 tackles and 1 forced fumble. Next up for Delaware is Fordham in the Bronx.

Amherst Herald

First order of business the lieu, second order of business protecting the world. Massachusetts takes a dump on Valparaiso. Final score is 66-3 and it wasn’t even that close. Edwin Lee throws for 475 yards and three touchdowns. Next up the Minutemen bring in Bucknell for the home opener.

Boston University Press

Lions are hares, Huskies are tortoise, slow and steady wins the race. Featured game of the week does not disappoint. Huskies win 31-27 and get the season started off right. Lynch goes for 111 yards and two touchdown receptions. Next up Northeastern welcomes Youngstown State for its home opener.

Nova Daily News

Wildcats get the early start dominating Baton-Rouge 17-3. Sadly these Jaguars still rule the wild in this match-up. Southern comes back in the second half winning the game 20-17. In defeat Kenneth Higgins rushes for 79 yards and one touchdown. Next up for Villanova #11 Duquesne comes to outer Philadelphia for a game.

Week 2 Preview

Delaware at Fordham

Fordham comes into this game looking to prove they belong in the renaissance of the northeast conversation. We regret to inform them that the Blue Hen express is rolling into town. After a surprising win against Albany, can the Rams pull off another upset? Coach Brenner and his team of nasty rascals will have something to say about that.

Winner: Delaware by 25

Massachusetts vs. Bucknell

The Bison got beatdown last week against Morgan State 72-7. The Minutemen put a waxing on Valparaiso 66-3 and it could have been even worse. This week expect the same thing from Edwin Lee and company. Another big game is in store for the emerging superstar quarterback. For the Bison to have a chance they will need a forfeit. Sadly, that is not an option in WIS.

Winner: Massachusetts by 40

Northeastern vs. Youngstown State

Northeastern pulled off a comeback win against Southeastern Louisiana, needing a touchdown in the final seconds to defeat the Lions. This week they open up their home schedule against the Penguins of Youngstown State.  After a tough loss last week the Penguins will be looking to bounce back and pick up a win. This is another game for Northeastern where both teams have a lot to gain and lose. The Huskies own a 4-3 head to head record and  Coach Tampa and Coach Sternes are battling for the first time. Should be another classic.

Winner: Youngstown State by 3

Villanova vs. #11 Duquesne

The Wildcats are in shock after what happened last week in outer Philly. The Wildcats got outscored 13-0 to lose a double digit half-time lead and drop the game to Southern. Coming into Villanova this week are the Dukes from Pittsburgh, Pa. This instate rivalry game will be one way traffic this season. Look for this one to be competitive in coming seasons.

Winner: Duquesne by 21

Week 2 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

BEAST MODE GOES OFF! Delaware silences the Rams and leave the Bronx winners. Blue Hens all over Fordham 55-24.  Pre-Season offensive poy Larry Chapman gashes the Rams defense for 260 yards and four touchdowns.   Next up for Delaware the Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb pay a visit to Newark.

Amherst Herald

Minutemen  need just that to dispatch Bison. After the first series there was no looking back for Edwin lee and company, the star quarterback torching the Bucknell defense for 485 yards and six touchdowns. Massachusetts wins this contest 73-17. Next up the Minutemen step up the competition level with Drake coming to Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

Boston University Press

Northeastern decided last week was a little too close for comfort. Huskies come up big with the win over Youngstown State. Robert Martin throws for 329 yards and three touchdowns. Huskies clock the penguins 41-20.  Next up Northeastern makes the short trip to Easton to take on the Lafayette Leopards

Nova Daily News

Ugly does not describe this one. Nova just did not have the horses to keep up with Duquesne dropping the game 34-0.  One bright spot is the play of James Palmer with another sold outing for the Wildcats. This week Villanova will try to contain Gregory Ellis and knock off Central Connecticut.

5/24/2015 6:33 PM
FYI - I've got UMass winning tomorrow by a field goal. A-10 looks impressive so far.

Week 3 Preview:

Delaware vs. Gardner-Webb

I would love to say this one will be interesting, but that would be lying. Gardner-Webb looked good last week against Carolina A&T. That's great for the Runnin' Bulldog faithful, sadly most teams would dominate the Aggies. Delaware laid a beat down heard around every borough last week. We have strong sources that, that type of showing is what Coach Brenner and company are going for again. Look for a heavy dose of Chapman, can you blame them?

Delaware takes this game in a blowout by 30.

Massachusetts vs. Drake

The season is now in fill force for the Minutemen. UMASS will be looking for payback in this contest as the Drake Bulldogs took the only previous meeting. Edwin Lee has been lights out for Coach Buck. Rumors  around Amherst say coach has been holding on to this kid until the time was right. Look at that kids photo, he's Bald! Check his birth certificate no way he has eligibility left. Just giving a little example of what the Bucknell secondary was saying last week. Expect this one to be closer then the experts think.

Massachusetts takes the game by 7, Edwin Lee crowed City Mayor for life.

Northeastern at Lafayette

Northeastern as been playing a lot better the last few weeks. Presented on this platter by their A.D is another challenge. Lafayette is a program on the rise and made a big push last season making the third round. They took out a tough Butler Bulldog team last week and want to continue the positive momentum. Northeastern is looking to notch another win for his young team. Which team wants it more will be the deciding factor and the leopards are hungry.

Huskies magic touch runs out, Lafayette wins by 14.

Villanova vs. Central Connecticut State

Villanova is looking for something positive this week. Last time out on the pitch the Wildcats fell hard to instate rival Duquesne...the wildcats did not manage to score a point. Don't be alarmed Nova faithful, Coach Kas is the man for the job! Look for Nova to make improvement this week and take this game. Gregory Ellis is beast for the Blue Devils and will look to keep his team on pace for the win. Nova's will and grit will get them this win, once they get a lead this time don't expect them to give it up.

Wildcats find a way to get it done, TKO the Blue Devils by 3

Week 3 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

Delaware down at the half 20-17 0_o what? Word on the street is the storied coach had one word to say at half time...S hyt. Brenner and his merry gang turn it on in the second half and tame the Runnin' Bulldogs 37-20.  Larry Chapman continues his impressive season accounting for 172 total yards for the Blue Hen offense. Rack up another touchdown and the second straight game averaging more then five yards a carry for the senior runningback. Up next instate rival Delaware State makes the short ride up the Delaware one north to face the Blue Hens.

Amherst Herald

Folks this one was a dandy if I must say so myself. Both teams came out firing in the first half leading to a Minutemen two point lead at the half. The second half was an completely different story, both offensive units going cold in the forth quarter. Bulldogs take this game 24-23. Massachusetts had many chances to comeback in the forth moving into Drake territory on three different drives, including the final two Minutemen possessions. Drake's defense stood stall and secured the win for their first year coach. Next up Massachusetts looks to right he ship against Wagner in Staten Island.

Boston University Press

Following the epic show down in Amherst was this game in Easton, PA. These teams were like that kid who ran out  the door and forgot his lunch. Instead of a cold bag being left it was offenses that stayed behind in the locker room. Neither team reached the 325 yard mark in the game and as the stats indicate it was a defensive slug fest. Lafayette defends home turf and gets the win 22-14. Coach Tampa was quoted as saying "those dame leopards always camping in our backfield, time for a new fence. This white picket crap ain't working."  We're not quite sure what the hell that means, maybe well find out next week as Northeastern takes on the Murray State Racers back in Boston.

Nova Daily News

Kas for president was heard around Villanova Stadium in the final seconds of this game. Despite the superb effort by Gregory Ellis the wildcats claw their way to a victory over Central Connecticut State. This win passes the win total by Nova last season when they account for a grand win total of zero. Kevin Harris leads the Cats with 314 yards thorough the air and one touchdown pass to help his first year coach notch the victory. Next up for Nova is a date with Eastern Washington and the Inferno in Cheney. Guess Coach Kas still has Cheney on his mind.

Week 4 Preview:

Delaware vs. Delaware State

Delaware gave us all a little scare last week with the opening half against Gardner-Webb. I have a feeling that only fans and spectators had any doubt about the Blue Hens winning the game. With that said, look for Chapman to get a heavy dose of carries in this game. Delaware knows what it needs to do to win games. They like to grind it out but will move the ball through the air if need be. Judging by the talent on the other side of the ball in this game, I hope you don't have a frequent flyer card cause the ball may never leave the ground. Chapman is going to light up the Hornets defense...I hope their fans are ready. 0-3 one week 0-4 the next coming to to a book store near you. A new biography written by the season 111 Delaware State football team.

Delaware shows they are not looking to next week, take out the Hornets by 20.

Massachusetts at. Wagner

Edwin Lee did not have his best game last week and he didn't have a bad game either. Basically he was average, but that can be said about the entire Massachusetts offense. Drake's defense proved to be a lot better then anyone was expecting. I regret to inform Seahawk faithful that Drake's defense has left the building. The Minutemen should have no problem dispatching Wagner by a large margin. The Seahawks should be confident after a 2-1 start to the season, but Jackson State and Portland State are not in the same league as UMass. This ship gets sailing in the right direction again right away.

Massachusetts  shows no mercy win by 35.

Northeastern vs. Murray State

Northeastern got a dose of reality last week. While they battled the Leopards of Lafayette tough the offense just did not perform up to par. Lafayette also picked up multiple sacks in the game and even scored a safety in a 22-14 win. The Huskies will have to improve their quarterback protection in order to have a chance in this game. Multiple negative plays normally lead losses and upset fan basses. Murray State will be licking their chops at a chance to right their season. After suffering losses to some of the nations elite programs people maybe over looking them. Don't let the 1-2 start fool you. Both defeats come at the hands of teams who could find themselves deep in the playoffs. Should be another dandy in Boston for Husky fans, but can they pull it off is the question?

Huskies right to the end, but the Racers are just a tad to quick. Murray wins by 3

Villanova at Eastern Washington

Villanova got their first win of the season last week against Central Connecticut. Wildcat fans are partying like its season 101, you know the last time they won the conference championship.  Nova has good reason to be excited about the future. Coach Kas has improved the team every week and finally got the result we all knew would come soon. Now they travel to Cheney to take on Eastern Washington where they should be the favorite to win. Both have losses to South Baton-Rouge, however the Eagles gave up 52 points to the Jaguars. Villanova should take this contest but it will be close.

Wildcats knockout the Eagles by 7

Week 4 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

Ok Blue Hens we get it, you don't have to continue to show your second half dominance every game. After a less then stellar start, Delaware comes up big in the second half of the contest. Larry Chapman lead the way of course. The senior bruiser busting up the Hornet defense for 223 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. Delaware jumps into the first ranking as the #25 team in the nation. A prime test of the ranking comes this week when #8 East Tennessee State comes into Newark. A win would be huge to the Blue Hens playoff seed, look for Chapman to be a key role in this one.

Amherst Herald

Wagner keep this one closer then we expected. The worst part about that statement is the Seahawks still got pounded by 41 points. Umass got back to playing Minutemen football after a disappointing outing last week. This week saw more of what we are accustomed to seeing out of Coach Buck's crew. Edwin Lee was outstanding throwing for 226 yards and three touchdowns helping his team to a 47-6 victory over Wagner. Fans in Amherst can take a sigh of relief as it should be smooth sailing from here besides the contest with Delaware. This week sees the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs come into McGuirk Alumni Stadium. Having taken a loss to Delaware it will interesting to see how the Runnin' Bulldogs do against Massachusetts.

Boston University Press

Another classic in Boston, another loss for Northeastern. Husky fans knew this game would be hard to come by, but their guys battled to the end. Murry State came into this game with something to prove after taking losses to two power house teams. After a defensive struggle in Easton last week for Northeastern, both offenses seemed pretty well oiled up for this game. However, in the end the Racers were just a little quicker around the track taking the game 24-20. Husky junior halfback Donald Oliver accounted for 248 yards of offense and two touchdowns in defeat. The brutal schedule continues next week against Austin Peay down in Clarksville. After tasting victory in weeks one and two the Huskies look to get back on the winning side of things.

Nova Daily News

How about those Wildcats!! Nova has looked pretty good the last couple of weeks. For the first time in over a season they came into a game having won the previous week and bring favored. No sweat shed for Coach Kas and company as they go to the Inferno and take out Eastern Washington 31-15. Senior running back James Palmer racked up 145 yards on the dirt and two touchdowns. The offensive line helping him average 11.2 yards per carry. Wildcat fans loving seeing that and it looks like nova is on the rise. Next up Arkansas Pine Bluff visits Villanova Stadium. Nova will be looking for another win and also a winning record!

Week 5 Preview:

#25 Delaware vs. #10 East Tennessee State

Finally the Match up all Delaware fans were waiting for. The Blue hens have been building all season for this game, slicing and dicing competition along the way.  Can the boys in lighter blue pull it off? Sure they can, but Larry Chapman will have to have a one of his better days on the field. After what he has done to lead the Blue Hens up to this point we see no reason to think that won't be the case. The Buccaneers come into this game finding their groove after a surprising loss to Columbia in week two. Quarterback David Wills has been impressive leading the boys from Johnson City. We had a tough time picking a winner in this game as its basically a toss up and could come down to one play. Time to line up and see who can find an advantage in the conferences featured game of the week.

Delaware fights hard but lose this game by 2.

Massachusetts vs. Gardner-Webb

Life after a loss hasn't been so bad. Losing early for Umass may have been a blessing. They now know what it takes to win big games in the playoffs and also against the Blue Hens in conference play. Their opponent this week won't know what hit them and the game might as well be over before it starts. Gardner-Webb just doesn't have the talent to keep up with such a high pace team. The Runnin' Bulldogs hung tough with Delaware for a half earlier in the season and that will come back to hurt them in this game. Massachusetts will not be looking past this team at all. Coach Buck should get to play some of the back-ups in early prep for what fans hope is another deep playoff run. Expect the scoreboard to light up on one side today...and that is the home team.

Massachusetts begins to come into form, tame the Bulldogs by 25

Northeastern at. Austin Peay

Northeastern is on a little skid after starting out quickly. This week may bring a win if everything goes to plan, but don't expect it to be easy. Austin Peay brings a team to the field that has an impressive collection of weapons. The Governors will be looking to lay down the law and protect their home field in Clarksville. The Huskies have not been able to get much going on the scoreboard lately and will look to change that this week. Robert Martin carried his team to a lead in the second half last week against Murray State. The Racers stepped up and scored ten straight points to win the game by four. Peay knows this game can be interesting if they let Northeastern hang close and are hopping to pick up win number four. Northeastern is looking for win number three and a potential top 25 ranking. Lots on the line in this contest. Straw polls won't be needed in this one, these Governors fight to the end.

Austin Peay clips Northeastern by 5 and positions itself for shot at playoffs.

Villanova vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff

Please stand up and clap for Villanova. After such a storied past in the Atlantic Ten, this guys look to be heading up under the direction of Coach Kas. This week sees another winnable game and a chance to obtain a winning record! Who would have thought that possible at the end of last season? We sure as hell didn't and fans were asking to shut down the program. The city of brotherly love was hating all on the Wildcats. Enter the man with the plan, the most interesting coach in this world, The Savoir, King Kas, move over Lebron. What? I mean the guy is working magic with Nova. Come down to outer Philly for another showing of how to win a football game the good ole fashion way. Look for Nova to grind out another one on the ground against the Golden Lions

Nova gets to 3-2, run over Golden Lions by 10.

Week 5 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

Time to hit the reset button in Newark after getting completely ripped apart by East Tennessee State. The Vising boys from Johnson City showed why they are the premiere program in the Southern Conference at the moment. Quarterback David Wills had the day Delaware fans hoped would not be possible. Wills threw for 200 yards and one touchdown in the game. Shutting down Larry Chapman was the key to winning for the Buccaneers. For the Blue Hens to win Chapman had to produce and he was stuffed time and time again only gaining 61 yards on the day. Once the final seconds rolled off the clock, the  now #6 East Tennessee State Buccaneers had put together an impressive 28-6 win over Delaware. Next up Delaware has a meeting with #21 Northeastern in Boston.

Amherst Herald

Haven't heard of Edwin Lee eh? Well you better get his autograph while you can, this kid is the next star in the Atlantic Ten conference. Massachusetts lines up against the Runnin' Bulldogs and put a beat down on the visitors from Boiling Springs. When half-time rolled around the newsroom was going crazy, many thought Umass would put up a hundred points on these guys. 86-13 was the final score on the day. Not quite the hundred these Minutemen looked to be heading towards, but the fans at Alumni Stadium will still take the victory. Edwin Lee accounted for 376 yards and six touchdowns. The looming match up with Delaware for what should be the right to play for the championship inches closer everyday. First the Minutemen make a short bus trip to Durham to take on New Hampshire.

Boston University Press

Another classic in Boston...seems to be the saying in games featuring the Huskies this season. Surprisingly you won't be hearing that from us this week as the Huskies got back to old form beating Austin Peay 38-10. Robert Martin was outstanding on the day passing for 302 yards and three touchdowns. The fans in Clarksville did not make this an easy contest to win. Northeastern built a 21-0 halftime and never looked back securing the victory. With the win today Northeastern finds itself ranked #21 in the country. This marks the first ranking under Coach Tampa's watch and may not last for long. Testing that ranking this week will be the Delaware Blue Hens. Fans of the boys from Boston are hoping to keep it close and take the game in the end.

Nova Daily News

Not so fast said the football gods to the Wildcats. Sometimes things just don't go your way even when the stats say they should. Villanova had this game in hand but just could not put away the Golden Eagles. Let's hope this does not hurt the teams confidence as they are still playing high quality football. At halftime the Wildcats were up 16-10 and looked to put their foot down and cruise to the victory. Arkansas Pine Bluff had other ideas,  jumping out to a quick start striking for 10 points and taking a 20-16 lead less then seven minutes into the second half. Nova would score a touchdown on a Kevin Harris 21 yard bomb to Daniel  Warren to regain control. Pine Bluff answered in the fourth with a punt return for a touchdown to win the game 27-23. Villanova opens conference play with a trip to Hempstead  and a battle with Hofstra.
