I'm looking to arrange my bullpens in NON-LIVE leagues that would maximize the potential that the best available reliever for a specific situation, no matter what inning it is?

Basically, if I have Maddux on the mound in the 4th in a tie game and the bases are loaded with one out, I want Gagne, or Chapman, or Kimbrel, or Mariano to come in to shut that down.

I have tried this approach:

1. Tinkered with the pitch count and call bullpen settings for both starters and relievers by setting the pitch counts on the low side and the call bullpen rating on the high side

2. Then putting all of my bullpen guys in one classification like all as Setup A or Long A.

Am I on the right track?

What about using the LH and RH specialist slots?

My experience is that the LH and RH specialist slots are useless - these guys almost never get called upon...

You're on the only track I can think of, setting those guys at Set Up A (I hardly EVER use Long A), moving their pull setting up a bit, e.g. tempting to set a 2 or 3, but if they struggle and you have Gagne, Chapman, et al.. to come in, move to pull setting 3 or 4. I don't meddle too much with pitch count. Take their real life IP/G and multiply it by 15.5 and use it for both TPC and MPC in 90% of the cases.

I don't use the LH/RH specialist roles any longer. Tried it a bit to see if it works and how it works. Never figured it out. Sparky didn't bring them in when I thought appropriate and left them in past the time I felt he should. Tried pull settings at 5, low pitch counts, late inning availability and it still never worked for me.

Having them all set to SETUP A is interesting. I've found that with having SETUP B guys, the sim will select the B guy if your team is 1 run ahead and in trouble. It is Sparky's feeling that that is not a trouble situation. The admins confirmed that strategy, but it drives me nuts.
