Oh, wasn't there one pitcher who threw a complete game with 2 grand slams? Cloninger or something
5/12/2016 10:44 PM
Yes, Tony Cloninger hit two grand slams in a game in 1965, drove in 9 runs, still a record for a pitcher.

I didn't realize the no-hitter (and the two homers) was against the Big Red Machine ! Wow.

Rose, Bench, Foster, Perez, Lee May, they were all in the lineup that day. Even Hal McRae, and Bernie Carbo as a pinch hitter.

Makes Wise's accomplishment even more impressive, small sample size or no. And only one walk.

Everyone knows about Joe D's 56, but looking at OBP is arguably more important than AVG.

Who holds the record for longest streak of getting on base (not counting errors), and how many games is the streak?

I don't know off hand how long the streak was...but I am 99.9999% sure Teddy Ballgame owns the record.

Correct! Anyone know how many games? It's pretty incredible
5/13/2016 3:58 PM
Good one. When I was a kid, the answer was Davey Lopes...I still have the 1976 Topps Record Breaker Card that talks about him setting the record in 1975. I know it has since been broken, but I know neither who currently holds it, nor how many.

EDIT - Hey, there was a "consecutive stolen base" question here a second ago....

Otherwise my post here is a non sequitor
5/13/2016 4:03 PM
Here are a couple harder but similar ones.

1. Who holds the record for most consecutive successful stolen base attempts, and how many was it?

2. Who holds the record for most consecutive starts won, and how many was it?

3. Who holds the record for most consecutive appearances without being relieved, and how many was it? (This is an incredible stat)

4. Who holds the record for most consecutive perfect innings pitched, and how many was it?

5. In the modern era (post 1919), who holds the record for most consecutive innings pitched without allowing a homerun, and how many was it?

Sorry! Temporarily deleted it to add a few more.

1.) Don't know - see my post above
2.) Don't know
3.) Jack Taylor, I believe. Don't know the number, but I think it's > 300
4.) Jim Barr? I know that's absurd, but that's the name stuck in my memory from distant trivia past...obviously it was spread across 2 games, since barr never pitched a perfecto himself.
5.) Don't know.
