What's most impressive is that Ichiro did it in only 9 seasons (2001-2009).

Second guess, if it isn't Delahanty, would be George Sisler - 1920s, but I don't know how he fared towards the end of the decade off the top of my head.

Neither Delahanty nor Sisler are correct

The shorter schedules of the 1890s hurt Delahanty...he only twice played even 140 games in the decade.  Sisler missed the entire 1923 season, which pretty much killed his chances.

I cheated and checked but Hugh Duffy did not get there in the 1890s - 1861 total. hmm.

Eddie Collins in the teens?

It's not Clemente, though he had over 1900 in the 1960s.

Jeter was in the 1800s for the 2000s. Neither Aaron, nor Honus nor Shoeless Joe did it.

Has to be Speaker, Yaz or Molitor.

Collins probably drew too many walks to get that many hits.

Not: Collins, Jeter, Aaron, Wagner, Jackson, Speaker, Yaz, Molitor

This one's tough, isn't it?

As a frequent Sporcler, I think I know who it is now.  It's a guy I always forget, even on that site.

None of the above, not Collins either. Aargh ! this is driving me crazy. It must be someone we would know it to be as a logical possibility, but I am running out of ideas.

My curiousity got the best of me and I had to look it up...and you're right. It definitely isn't a name that pops in your mind when you think about a record like this. Actually, I wouldn't have come up with this guy in 100 years...lol.

If you're playing a progressive league, he'd sure be a good first-round pick though...

For those who want to know the answer...it's this guy.

Others are encouraged to keep guessing.

Lou Gehrig had more than  2000 hits from 1927-36 and 1928-37 but did not get 2000 in a calendar decade.

Looked it up also. Never even heard of him. That's embarrassing

I have, never would have thought of him. Good article by Bill James on calendar decade stats.

Chuck Klein tailed off even faster than I thought in the '30s.  Under 1700 hits.
