Stolen Bases suppressed? Topic

I pretty much play only in current progressives (WADY & APPA, quick plugs for the leagues ;) and this year the stolen bases in APPA are extremely suppressed - league wide. Is there something to that with the engine?

(I looked for release notes, couldn't find anything with no updates since Nov 2013. I didn't really see anything on the forums either, hopefully it's not a question that's been hotly debated already - if so, my apologies for not finding the original thread!)

not seeing anything unusual in my progressives

A quick look at the top SB leaders in my 2011 prog that just wrapped up the regular season would suggest the opposite of SB suppression:

Michael Bourne 119 SB (RL 61)
Coco Crisp 101 SB (RL 49)
Jose Reyes 79 SB (RL 39)
Brett Gardner 71 SB (RL 49)

Could it be a lot of owners in your league are setting their base stealers to 0, perhaps because of poor success rates?

2015 APPA SB LEADERS THRU 65 GAMES
1. Ben Revere 9 SB, 1 CS (actual 31 SB, 7 CS)
2. Dee Gordon 8 SB, 3 CS (actual 58 SB, 20 CS)
3. Billy Hamilton 7 SB, 1 CS (actual 57 SB, 8 CS)
4. Starling Marte 6 SB, 2 CS (actual 30 SB, 10 CS)
4. Charlie Blackmon 6 SB, 3 CS (actual 43 SB, 13 CS)
my guy, Lorenzo Cain, 3 SB 0 CS - setting at 5 (actual 28 SB, 6 CS)

2014 APPA SB LEADERS THRU 162 GAMES

1. Jose Altuve 120 SB, 12 CS
2. Dee Gordon 119 SB, 23 CS
3. Billy Hamilton 97 SB, 24 CS
4. Ben Revere 86 SB, 16 CS
5. Jacoby Ellsbury 76 SB, 3 SB
all the way down to...
25. Lorenzo Cain 34 SB, 3 SB

2015 APPA TEAM SB LEADERS THRU 65 GAMES:
1. Detroit Darters, 23 SB, 6 CS
2. Pitt Pythons, 17 SB, 5 CS
3. Philly Booze, 15 SB, 7 CS
4. Milwaukee Fodder, 13 SB, 1 CS
4. Anaheim Anteaters, 13 SB, 7 CS
4. Queens Wee Rock Ewes, 13 SB, 6 CS
t-14. Pacific Fire (me), 5 SB, 7 CS

2014 APPA TEAM SB LEADERS THRU 162 GAMES:
1. Anaheim Anteaters, 277 SB, 35 CS
2. Philly Booze, 234 SB, 43 CS
3. Pacific Fire (me), 186 SB, 51 CS
4. Dinos Heroes, 154 SB, 43 CS
5. Houston Hitmen, 152 SB, 28 CS

I am setting my rates as I usually do, and I doubt that a team that stole 277 with 35 CS the prior year would suddenly choke out their SB rates to 13 SB in 20 attempts in 65 games.

Something seems fishy here.

From 2014 to 2015 there was almost a 10% decrease in stolen bases MLB-wide, with a slight increase in CS.  But you're right, that doesn't explain away a disparity of this magnitude.  Although, to be honest, both sets of numbers look weird.  Those guys should not have amassed SO many steals in 2014, across the board.

The stat report (https://www.whatifsports.com/mlb-l/stat_snapshot.asp?rid=399&ViewReport=Go) shows no meaningful differences in SB/G during recent weeks/months.
1/25/2016 6:55 PM
Week ending 1/22/16 SB/G = 1.94
Week ending 1/15/16 SB/G = 1.89
Week ending 12/11/15 SB/G = 1.90
Week ending 9/18/15 SB/G = 2.03
Week ending 2/6/15 SB/G = 1.86

Hovers around 1.9 pretty darned consistently as far as I can see.

Good share. I wonder if this is a 2015 player issue, the report shows all players...

I shouldn't really complain as my team is probably below average for my league in terms of stealing ability; it's just perplexing that the difference is so substantial

I just finished a 2015 only league and the SBs were way, way low. Might be an issue with them.

We tracked down and corrected an issue with 2015 catchers today. It was the cause for the reduction in stolen base attempts for any leagues using 2015 catchers. Thanks to those that brought this to our attention.
