Bit of a controversial pick with the '40 Foxx at 13 overall. The 2nd best catcher available in the draft on a per-PA basis, and he had 651 PAs. For some reason the Red Sox have a shortage of those 200-300 PA catchers who make great platoon options.

Other than Foxx, my top few guys were Leonard, the 2 big Pedro seasons, Wood's 367ip version, and 1 other player that wasn't picked yet (and who I might regret not picking)

Rd #1 Pick..15----1902 Cy Young...455 innings pitched and solid numbers, we couldn't pass on this pitcher.

Technically the 11th pick, but due to missing my window, picked him 14th, 1949 Ted Williams. In my opinion, the best of his seasons, due to the extra 100 pa's or so that you get out of him. I get him for all 162 gams, .343/.490/.650, his 2b's normalize well, and has a good glove for him.

I was hoping for '12 Wood or '99 Pedro, but apparently, so was everyone else. Will there be any quality pitching left when my 2nd rd pick shows up?

The first round is in the books! Thanks to all of you that shared the reasoning for your selection. For those that haven't, it would be great if you could do so tonight or tomorrow morning, prior to tomorrow afternoon's article. For future rounds, we may not get the chance to publish your analysis, but it would still be fun to read them here.

At the conclusion of the draft, we'll be requesting a brief synopsis of how you think your draft went. Just something to keep in mind as the rest of the draft plays out.

Couldn't pass up a chance to have Babe Ruth on the team he never should have left.

It was between 16 and 17 Ruth. Best pitchers available with high IP. Now that the curse is over, I have no hard feelings towards the Babe! I chose 16 because I think the lower OAV# will be better than the lower BB# in this league. I hope Contrarian felt the same because he stole 18 Carl Mays from me in round 2. Mays and his high IP will be huge paired with Ruth. 11 Joe Wood was a distant second so I went with him. I couldn't justify any OF this early though Williams would like nice in the three hole.

Carl Mays had to join the team, because he's another guy who got a bad rap historically (granted it came after he had joined the $*%&$% Yankees). Ray Chapman died after being hit by a Mays pitch but (a) there's no evidence this was an intentional beaning (b) baseball's circumstances at the time - no head protection for batters, poor lighting, rampant use of (legal!) spitballs meant that a casualty was inevitable.

The theme for our team may end up being "redemption"

Rd #2..Pick 26---1948 Ted Williams...After the amount of pitchers selected I felt I needed to take a top notch hitter, will be a little while before I pick and I think some of the owners with top 10 picks will need a bat. Nice to have Ted Williams on your team. P.S. I wanted the 47 version (went 25th) but I was late making my pick.

If anyone from outside the league would like to follow the draft, check out the updated results.

2nd Rnd - 1919 Babe Ruth. The pitchers left are more or less equal. I felt Ruth's 1st great season with the bat is still better than most seasons of any player. Ever. A Big HR hitter to protect The Splinter. Can play a flawless 1b with reduced range, or a solid RF.

Round 2, Pick 35: 1913 Tris Speaker - I was REALLY hoping 1919 Ruth would make it back around to me here as he will likely lead the league in HRs. Instead, I was able to snag a CF who doesn't hit into DPs and will hit plenty of XBH, which works well with the ballparks we will be in all season.
4/7/2016 7:15 PM
Round 3, Pick 45: 1970 Carl Yastrzemski - Simple, that .456 OBP# is beautiful. Dunno whether he's gonna play first or DH yet. I feel like I might regret leaving '85 Boggs on the board but we will see. He has since been picked.
