Admin informs me that our private threads will auto generate when I create the league. I suppose till my team is ready to enter we will need to use a public thread for our inaugural draft...

You can create a fake team now and then enter your real team once it is drafted and remove your fake team from the league.  I have done that a couple of times.

For the inaugural draft, 26 rounds with 1 hour picks would take weeks...subsequent drafts we would have 1 hour slots. Those are usually less than 10 rounds...

I wish to be in American League if still open.
Just to be clear, after the initial draft, IF in AL you can only draft AL players or vice versa, the next year is it the same, you only can draft AL players or are (Rookies open for either AL or NL owners? Also what if a player played in both leagues and say is drafted as a AL player (better stats there) but next year is playing in the NL. Is he kept to play in AL or does he need to be dropped? Also in the playoff championship game (AL vs NL) is DH allowed? thanks

You can draft whoever you want regardless of what league they actually played in. The DH is only being used by our American League teams and that is the only reason you need to designate AL or NL. In a championship the DH is used in the American League stadium just like in real life.

We could do 1 hour intervals for round 1, then 30 minutes for the remaining rounds. Is that more workable?
