The Detroit Tigers - the 'best' medicore MLB team Topic

Man, Detroit 2-8 over the last 10. And they are among the leaders in DWAR, further reinforcing that they are an old, defensively challenged team.

But at least Justin Verlander has bounced back to reclaim his... Oh wait. 4.71 ERA. Bu then there's Sanchez, Pelfrey, Fulmer... oh right. They are struggling too.

Well, at least the whole 'best lineup in baseball' argument seems to be somewhat true so far. Oh wait, maybe not. They are league average.

Not gonna defend the Tigers cuz they are disappointing but. Verlander has 6 out of 8 quality starts. I was wrong about Sanchez getting back to his usual self. Everyone knew Pelfrey was gonna be a disaster. But yeah. Detroit leads the MLB in at bats with bases loaded and is 13th in AL in runs scored. Smh

Fullmer needs another year in AAA to slow his change up down a couple mph. And Ausmus needs to go

Take heart, drock. 7 teams worse than the Tigers.

Where are all the experts who picked Houston?

I think I was one of them

Ausmus got tired of watching his turd team and gets tossed.

This is such a bullshit series - Phillies and Tigers. But I'll say this much, this was an interesting At Bat.

Verlander has now made 10 starts. His ERA in the 8 best of them is 2.43. And that's not particularly selective. He blew up in 2 starts, but the rest of the time he's actually been very good. His K rate so far would be the 2nd-best of his career, trailing only 2008. I don't think he's a Cy Young contender, but he could easily win 15 or 16 games this year if he gets average run support.

Wins don't matter for SP, dumbass. Haven't you read a thing BL has posted in the last 5 years?

Hey look, Mike's actually right about something! Crazy.

Verlander has a 1.1 WAR which is just below Erasmo Ramirez.
I'M NOT IMPRESSED!!!!! WWWAAAARRRR!!!!!

Verlander's probably in the top 20 in AL starters so far this year. Pretty good. His ERA is a little ugly but everything else looks good.

I'll take 2 out of 3 for now. As long as the Tigers don't play the Indians, they'll make the playoffs. .600 win% against teams not from Cleveland

Meh.

I guess it depends on what you expected from him. If you expected him to be Chris Sale, then yeah, this is just meh. But if you expected him to be just average, this is pretty good. Top 20 is pretty good when there are roughly 80 starting pitchers in the AL.
