Y'all talking about greatest hitters of our time without mentioning Stephen Drew?

Best hitter IS the most productive. Why is a .400 OBP better than a .350 OBP? Because it helps the team score produce more runs. There is no separating productivity from skill.
If you can't separate productivity from skill then you're as much of a dumbass as tec thinks you are.

Welcome to the party, dahs. If it ain't a stat, it don't count in BL's world.

BL kills me. We have a very smart guy in one of my fantasy leagues. Knows every stat inside and out. His teams always finish in the lower half.

You tell me, what makes someone the best hitter?

Yeah, you're dumb.

One of the best hitters on the team I'm managing this spring does not have the best stats on the team.

Your argument allows for the guy who hits two seeing eye singles that finds a seam between the infielders, and drops a bloop single in over 2B to be "the better hitter" over the guy who hit three screaming line drives right at somebody, because Mr. 3-for-3 was more productive than Mr. 0-for-3.

Do you watch baseball?

He does not. It's an established fact.
5/13/2016 10:57 AM
But he can read a stat sheet. That's all he needs to understand baseball better than anyone.

Duh!

I wish I could find his post from a couple of years ago that said "I don't need to watch the games. I have the stats".

But we aren't talking about 12 year olds and one game samples. We're talking about major leaguers over multiple seasons.

Answer this question, who is the best hitter in baseball and why?

Let's not try to divert the discussion.

You seem to think that productivity = skill. More specifically, that stats = skill. Let's focus on that.

Please explain.

It's not a diversion, it's exactly what we're talking about.

I think that the best major league hitter is the one with the best stats. Do you disagree?
5/13/2016 11:30 AM
I can't confirm or deny until I fully understand your thoughts on how stats = skill.

Please explain.
5/13/2016 11:49 AM
WAR?

Now you're the one diverting.

Answer the question.
