I have some amazing news about my sister that I need to share with my friends who have supported me through this very difficult time. I have been out of town for the last five days after getting a call letting me know that Serena was in the emergency room and that things looked very bad for her. After doing another CAT Scan the doctors declared that the cancer had spread in her lungs to several new locations, and that now they had plenty of spots to get a biopsy from. We have been in limbo waiting on a biopsy because they legally cannot start the cancer treatments without it. They got the biopsy sample Thursday morning, that afternoon and before the results came in one of her doctors came to her room and gave a very grave prognosis based on the CT scan and the rapid spread of the cancer, that doctor told us all that even with aggressive treatments they did not expect her to live much longer. It took 24 hours for the results from the biopsy to come in, the doctor who came to her room to relay the results was one that none of us had ever seen before, he was an infectious disease control specialist! It turns out that my sister does not have cancer at all, she has a fungal infection instead and it is very treatable
Another 24 hours have passed and she has yet to see a single one of the doctors that misdiagnosed her, or the one who came with the very grave prognosis just hours prior to the good news. I think that there are some very embarrassed specialists right now, they have been telling a woman for 6 weeks that she had stage IV cancer and that she probably had only months to live. The entire time it was a treatable infection that they let go and probably made worse! I actually feel bad for them in a way, but someone should probably stop by her room and apologize to her.
Serena still has some major problems and she is very sick, but they are now telling her that she should have a full recovery and after receiving IV anti fungal treatments and some physical therapy to build her strength back up she should be able to return to her normal activities. Now that my friends is a praise report for you! We went from zero hope to total elation and hope for a long future in just 24 hours. All of those prayers that you have sent up meant the world to my sister and I, it is impossible for me to thank you all enough for your thoughtfulness and encouragement! Most of all I want to thank a wonderful God though, we are and were submitted to His Will for our lives no matter what the outcome, but we do believe in the power of prayer and we know that God works through His people. Thank you all and may God bless and enrich your lives with abundant hope through the working of this miracle.
