Kind of a Big Deal at Bennett Park
Pretty happy with how this draft went. Lineup and bullpen were my drafting priorities and they look like strengths.

I'll run a straight platoon at three infield positions plus DH. RH starters will face two righties (Robinson and Banks). LH starters will face ZERO lefties in my lineup. Fielding is pretty good too save for McGraw and Robinson.

The rotation is going to be a dice roll. Grabbed Pelty as insurance against one of my three SPs turning out to be a gas can. No matter what, I figure to get lit up by LH hitters.

Alright who's providing the commentary now that the draft is complete???

Great Draft guys! This one is the most fun, and with the caliber of players here, the most challenging. It was hard to see guys who were my sleepers last season go in front of me, but that's also one of the things that makes it fun, mixing it up. Happy with my roster, but I think, like all of us, could have done better. My thinking once I took Silver King was to put together a team that isn't going to give up home runs and, since most staffs have at least one or two deadballers, will single and double the hell out of the opposing pitching staff.

Very fun draft. As I've mentioned, I missed out on quite a few targets but just a pick or two, but am pleased with my team. The first half of the draft went pretty much by the book for us. I think I made some mistakes in the second half, though, mainly due to not having as much time to research my picks. In a spacious park like Municipal, it's essential have a good defense, and we probably have the best in the league. My goal at the beginning of the draft was to get this defense and a top notch bullpen. I think I also have the top bullpen in the league. We will give up very few homers. With the prevalence of good deadball pitching available in this draft, I thought drafting players who derive most of their salary from their homers was likely a mistake. I am confident in this strategy. I think we're very well equipped to make a run at a playoff spot.

Post game Interview with D.W.A. manager Manny Durtaugh:

"Two miscues in the field and that's what happens. Three unearned runs are the difference. Questions?"

You mentioned in Spring Training that this would be a solid defensive team. Is it too early to be disappointed?
"We lost a game because of them so I'm disappointed. Lou (Boudreau) and Johnny are sick to their stomach. They are blaming themselves. Apparently it's never too early to be disappointed."

Do you feel you let Tim (Keefe) out there too long? 8.0 IP, 13 H, 7 R, 4 ER
"I'm pretty sure his arm is made out of rubber cement so he could go 20 innings if we asked him to. I've got to trust the bullpen so maybe all the pitchers will be on a shorter hook. He is 0-1 but he didn't deserve the loss. He threw damn well good enough to get us a victory. It just didn't happen."

On the top (Heinie Manush) and bottom of the order (Earle Combs):
"Those two are gritty, hard-nosed ball players. I feel comfortable with either one at lead off and the other at the nine spot. It gives us speed on the bases and the ability to find gaps with their bats."

On game two starter Rube Waddell:
"Wow....Rube is unique. Probably as talented an arm as anyone in the league. He's got his issues but he might be the difference between us falling flat and competing for a playoff spot. I'll just make sure his head is attached before first pitch."
