Triples Team... What stadium to use Topic

I am considering entering a triples team to an OL. What park might be best? Here is the line-up.

What are their speed ratings?

Sandberg for $8M plus? Alomar, Frisch, Carew are options. Heck, that's Hornsby or Eddie Collins money...

Who's pitching?

Comerica, Petco, Hilltop, the K...

I am not a triples team guy. I can't see enough advantage building a team for an event that occurs 3-4 times per 100...if they're good, the park probably isn't critical. Your pitching staff will be more of a factor than hitting a fair number of three baggers. ..imo

If you are up against deadball pitchers, they seem to counter many of the xbh...

I'm sure some disagree. I just think the gain wouldn't be worth it. Happy to be proven wrong...

I see the appeal, but a guy like Granderson gives up a lot with the high K totals. Do you have an edge, rather than a lineup of high 1B/100# hitters that don't strike out much? Perhaps in Yankee 3 stadium his hr numbers justify drafting him...I would look at Bake McBride, Lance Johnson as a cost saving alternative...

I don't think anybody got from home to third faster than McBride...he could fly.

Take '96 Lance Johnson for a test drive. Just under $6.3M. The '93 version is cheaper, and you might keep him in against rh pitching only...

I'm pretty sure this is the opposite of the reality...

If they have high speed ratings, Astrodome. If they are average, AT&T. If they are super high, Petco

That's a pretty fast team, given just these facts, I'd put them in the Astrodome, ATT, or Comerica. I've done triples teams before and sort of stumbled across the '11 Shane Victorino. He's fast (90), a great fielder, has some power and exceeded my expectations in hitting three baggers. I'd use him before Granderson and spend the savings on upgraded pitching or bench depth. Also agree the '96 Lance Johnson is a good choice.

Another thing to consider with a triples team is OBP, because walks lead to many more runs scored from 1B with a triples team (they're not HR's, but they're the next best way to score BBs from 1B). And walks play in EVERY ballpark.

absolutely correct, 3B, OBP, and speed are three of main criteria when putting together an Astrodome team

I'd consider replacing Sandberg with 1998 Jose Offerman and Granderson with 1914 Sam Crawford; this will save you a lot of money for your pitching staff OR upgrade your SS situation with say a Jose Reyes season.

There a lot of good ballparks for triples--the ones previously mentioned are all good. I agree with DoctorK that triples are kind of high risk to build your team around. But with that said, I've done it before with success in an OL. I think low cap leagues are a great place to use the triple. Consider drafting hitters that will also hit doubles at a reasonable rate too though.

Should be a fun team for you to put together and manage.
