All I need to know about to evaluate a player is his WAR. Everything else is irrelevant.
Speaking of which, where is BL?
We can rule out watching baseball.
I would have watched the Red Sox game, but the team they were playing was dogshit.

More useful than sitting around waiting to be surprised by a relief pitcher.

Again, seated scouts are not there to watch ability.

I'm sure you're missing my point. They're at the game. Whatever expenses they have incurred is already paid. What harm is there in sitting there, watching the last 3-4 innings and maybe, just maybe, seeing some freshman who doesn't get to play much get an appearance? And, since they're not there to watch ability(but for some reason are clocking the pitcher), maybe said freshman shows an amazing calm for a kid who never plays.

There's the expense of their time. Wasting an extra hour at the game doesn't make a ton of sense.

Would you prefer that they went back to their hotel rooms and watched porn? Is that the best use of a baseball scout's time when baseball games are being played?

Sort of the point. In-the-park scouts are becoming obsolete. As a scout, you watch baseball. Maybe, as suggested, they were just there to watch a specific player. Once he was out of the game, their job was done. Or was it? I'm suggesting spending another hour or two at the ballpark might uncover something previously unknown. And that will show the value of being at the park rather than pouring over pages of stats.

Maybe they had travel arrangements. Maybe they needed to write their reports.

Who gives a ****?

Scouts at college games aren't obsolete because of stats. They are obsolete because of video.

Eight D1 games today. http://stats.ncaa.org/team/schedule_list?&division=1&sport_code=MBA

Maybe all three of those guys had to be at one of these games. Or not.

Were you at the game? Maybe they just moved to the first or third baseline to get a different view.

Or maybe they needed to be at a high school game today.

Or an independent league game.

Or your mom's house.

Who gives a ****?

Radar guys are show scouts not seated, they have a different role entirely.

Is it to watch baseball players?
