What's the least amount of $ spent on a recruit Topic

This is kind of a poll question. What's the least amount of $ you have spent on a pretty decent recruit for your respective division and they signed with you? I want to know what your team and coach prestige were at the time, about what the recruit's rating was, if they ended up like you thought/hoped they would potential wise, and the amount spent ($100 for scholarship plus what else),

I've spent $110 on a bunch of good recruits. People tend to stay away from recruits with below 30 Work Ethic, so when you find a good one in the 20's, even if they don't reach their full potential, if you can start them, they turn out pretty good.

The answer is $110, literally thousands of times, in circumstances too diverse to be meaningful.

Best player on my South Carolina team in Knight (Pedro Marrero) was a $110 special (he was ineligible)

Tarv - did you offer the start? Is there not a penalty since they are ineligible?

You are not held to the guaranteed start if they remain ineligible. However, if they score high enough during testing to become eligible then you are held to your guarantee.

I sign at least 1 player for $110 the majority of my recruiting cycles - as a rule, not as a backup plan.

I've never done the $110 special (only played 2 seasons). What is the strategy when doing this? Wait until after signings start and offer start/scholarship to a guy on your list that isn't getting any love from other schools? Do you offer the start/scholarship right away and hope no one else pursue the recruit? Thanks in advance.

Offer it right away

Awesome. Still somewhat new so I'm talking all of your responses in. I'm looking at 2 guys left for one schools and have enough to offer only one of them a guaranteed start but both have scholarships in hand already. I'm want you opinion which one you would want more and why.

I've scouted Jarvis Ruth 2 times and found out some good info on him.

I haven't scouted Andrew Ehlert at all but I think I like him better...

FYI- I wouldn't post on here what the scouting results are of recruits until after they signed. Someone could come on here and see that and decide he looks pretty good then swoop in and take him.

But i'm assuming you sent actual scouting trips for Ruth? You didn't do FSS?

And you don't have enough money left to offer both of them guaranteed start but you've already sent the schollys? So you have 10 bucks left?

Yes, just 10 points. Did some boneheaded things and not left with much. Still learning.

I agree! Call and a ship works well especially if they are 100 miles or less and FSS says they want to stay close to home.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

1. I thought preferences mattered very little.
2. The $110 should work on any immediately recruitable player regardless of preferences anyway.
3. I think it's more beneficial to use the $110 on players FARTHER away. Let's say you have two players you want to get. One is 50 miles away while the other is 2500 miles away. Using HVs/CVs/Phone calls and letters, it'll cost like $600 or something to get the guy who is 50 miles away but it'll cost over a grand to get the guy who is 2500 miles away. So if you want to get both guys, it'd be better to use the $110 on the more expensive guy and recruit the cheaper guy normally.
