OT: 73 Win Warriors Topic

I am currently working on a 3 page history paper and need some help. The topic was anything historical in our lifetime that has significance in American society. First thought was the Golden State Warriors and their 73 wins. I need a few ideas on why they are historically significant in American history just to get this paper rolling.

Zero significance besides selling a few t shirts. Only meaningful to a very small sliver of American society. Proceed with caution.

Fair enough, it's hard to see the significance of something when we're in the middle of the history itself. My next question is to anyone who was alive during the 72 win Bulls season, what type of Impact did they have on society?

If you're set on writing your paper about sports, I would consider writing about one of the following topics:

Allen Iverson and "rain cloud" of race that followed him his whole career
The Duke Lacrosse Scandal
The OJ Simpson Trial

OJ would be a good one. I still remember watching the verdict in 3rd grade. Teacher let us watch it live during class.

I'd also consider the Steroid Era in baseball. Or maybe even the concussion stuff going on in football. Maybe get some good quotables from Will Smith. "Tell the troof"

If you are dead set on having the paper be about sports I think Steph Curry's stats this year are historically greater than the 73 wins. Bill Simmons has anointed Curry as the founding member of the "WTF club".

30 PPG
50% FG%
45% 3P%
90% FT%
5 3PM/G

He attempted the most 3's in a season by over 200 and still shot 45%. Insanity.

73 wins is insignificant. In any other era that Warriors team wouldn't win 33 games.

Oscar Robertson? Is that you?

Nope, just a Curry-hater and someone who doesn't think that 73 wins is more important than other stories of the last 20 years. To be honest, it's not fair to compare teams of yesteryear with teams of today because those games will never happen, so my previous post is erroneous. But my opinion nonetheless.

I agree that 73 wins isn't as impressive as it would have been 20 years ago. Tanking is much to prevalent in today's NBA.

Curious to why you hate Curry? I am a huge Steph fan. When I was little and Davidson made the Elite 8 run in the NCAA Tournament, I was obsessed with Curry. He would do something cool and I would immediately go outside and try to imitate it. He wasn't a very big kid and I had heard about his problems during recruiting because of it. At the age of 10 I saw him as someone I could relate to being a smaller guy myself. What has done so far this season is just crazy and I love watching him play.

And yes, I'm a Curry-hater. I've played/watched basketball for just over 30 years, and the list of guys I've been lucky enough to watch is more impressive than Curry. Great shooter? Hell yes. I'm not that stupid to say the kid can't shoot. Team leader? That's Draymond Green. Killer instinct? Remains to be seen. Added bonus...as long as the Thunder keep winning we don't have to see his kid paraded out at every presser.

Curry is undeniably talented and the Warriors are one of the few NBA teams that's fun to watch. But their recent success is in no way relevant to "American history", no more so than Beyonce's Lemonade album or any other entertainment event that gets lots of temporary media attention.

I've seen better, more well-rounded players. I was a shorter guard (5'7) and always gravitated towards the underdogs as well. Part of the problem is social media praising him for every thing he does. Everything. It's a bit much.
