Moving to season 38 we have the following teams open. We have an active and committed group of owners returning, a regularly-updated blog with some creative entries, and one rule designed to prevent tanking (2-year win floor of 120, rarely comes up). AL East -
Kansas City Predators - This team was abandoned last year and we had a mid-season replacement come in and clean it up (after a long battle with WIS to get a replacement in there; it took much longer than we wanted). The team will have the 1st pick in the draft. There are a few interesting ML pieces but make no mistake about it, this is a rebuild. The top pick will certainly aid in those efforts.
AL West -
Boise City-Nampa - coming off a 94-win campaign, the prior owner was cutting back on teams and not able to return. This team is built to win and has some good talent in place, especially on the mound. Payroll is not unreasonable either, with about 62M in ML contracts returning.
AL West -
Salem SuperSonics - another owner cutting back on teams, this squad floundered a bit to a 71-win result last year. Six straight losing seasons have left the fan base craving a turnaround. Very low returning ML payroll, combined with some intriguing prospects (including the guy my scouts saw as the top SP prospect in last year's draft). This team could be ripe for a return to contention in the near future.
NL North -
Ottawa Ocelots - finished 76-86 last season but this whole division was right around that mark (the top 3 finishers in that div went 78-76-74 wins, respectively), so the division certainly appears within sight this year. Some talent on the ML roster, but a few larger contracts as well. Incoming owner could truly decide to go either way with this team.
AL North -
Philadelphia Iron Pigs - 102 wins last season and a wild card berth (in an insanely-competitive division). This team is built to win now with some top talent in the ML ranks. Outgoing owner had about 30 teams and needed to cut back, which is how this franchise became available. Payroll is relatively high, but the team is a contender already.
