Round 1 Themes Topic

I decided not to overthink it too much this year. My $255M, $140M and $70M teams, I went with the first team I put together and didn't touch it again.

$80M and $100M will be tough because I've assembled roughly 8 potential teams for each and I know it'll be obvious within the first week if I made the wrong choices - and I'll be kicking myself all season.

$110M isn't too bad - just a matter of deciding what strategy is best.

I think the 110 was one of the easiest. I hope that doesn't equate to a terrible team.

I spent the most time by far on the $80M theme. I had 3-4 viable options at the end after making 10-12 teams.

I made a few different $100M teams but I settled on one fairly quickly.

For better or worse, the other four teams came together quickly.

Personally, I'm glad to see some higher caps in this edition of the tournament. That, combined with the salary changes, should make for one of the more interesting tournaments. IMHO, the salary changes seriously impacted the $140M theme more than any other.

Good point about the salary changes, PQ. This year's tournament will be very interesting. Personally, I made a complete about-face on my 110M team due to the new salaries

$80M and $110M were the two that took all of my time. $80M because there are so many options to consider and $110M because it was tedious to solve the soup puzzle. $70M came together surprisingly quickly. $225M is a simple concept but I still did a lot of shuffling pieces around. Working on $140M now and doesn't look complicated because there aren't hundreds of options. $100M looks like it could be a bear but I haven't started it yet. May not have time to try many different ideas.

For the $140M league, is there a way either here or on baseball reference to search for career batting stats to narrow down the 300/1000/1000 batters? I'm sure there is and I'm just missing it but there's got to be an easier way than the tedious method I'm using now...any help is welcome. Thanks

Robbman, I think you may have misread the rules. Your team must have a sum total of 300/1000/1000 from the player seasons you draft. The career stats of those players do not matter. For example, you could draft Mike Trout even though he does not have 300 career HRs.

OH!! Wow yeah I totally misread that, esp since there are no catchers who have ever totaled 1k in career BB. So basically all of my batters combined have to equal 300/1000/1000? That's much easier than what I was trying to do lol

Yeah. Starters and scrubs combined. Pitchers' hitting stats do not count

Thanks!!

I was pretty happy with my $80M team, then had to make a change. The more I look at it now, the less I like it. The $255M one I took a certain approach with it and stayed with it throughout. We will see if that was the right approach or not later. I really don't like the $70M team, but I could not think of another way to tackle it at the time.

This will be a learning experience for me. I will be watching the veterans.

The 110 came together relatively quickly for me. I knew what I wanted and went after it.

It's the themes like 80 and 100 that kill me - too easy to build multiple teams and then get stuck being unable to decide. I put together spreadsheets and estimated run production. The teams that came out on top of the spreadsheet did not always match my gut.

I am just trying to figure out which, if any, of my teams will lose less than 100 games. I didn't do a good job this time around (no different than past Championships) and when I look at my teams, I cannot help but laugh (or cry).

Just wondering when we are allowed to go in and change our team names? Thanks

You can change them whenever you want. It was recommended you change them up front to avoid tipping people off as to which teams you used. Now that everyone has their teams in, it shouldn't matter.
