Anybody ever used a catcher with 0 range?

The best bat in my crop of draft prospects is listed as a DH, with defensive ratings of 0 range - 27 glove - 65 arm - 72 accuracy - 67 PC. If not for the 0 range, he'd be a passable C so I'm wondering how much the 0 range would hurt me. The bat is elite, so if I land him he might have to be a Mike T RF - but I'm not sure how high I should rate a guy who's only defensive option for my NL squad would be a bad RF.

He'll have more than his fair share of passed balls at C. 0 range in RF is no real different than 15 range.

Bad RF with elite bats are worth it. But it all depends on your options. If you're talking a "normal" RF with an OPS of .700 and a C in RF with a .900 OPS, it's a no brainer. If it's .825 vs .900, not so much.

This is the only guy I'm currently using. He costs me about 50 bags a season over the last 4 full seasons(.25 lacking in range and 14 negative plays). In 130-140 games, he's also averaging 310.75 total bases and 50 walks. So, in order for it to be a push, the "normal" guy would have to average 260 total bases. Essentially, 100 singles, 25 doubles and 15 homers. I haven't had a guy who could do that and play RF.

Just found this thread after I posted my newest one. I'm facing a similar dilemma.

My prospect has better projected ratings overall though: 0 range, 32 glove, 70 strength, 80 accuracy, 95 PC.

Would you still play that guy in RF on an NL team, or take a shot with him at C?

No reason to not use him as a C.

Check your world for single season records for passed balls. Should be better than a 15 negative plays in RF.
