A better question would be were there players from your childhood that you grew up believing were great players but now realize were nothing special at all?
I have a couple of guys for this spot. I remember playing this one baseball video game for the original PlayStation. I think it was a 2002 game, but I don't think it was MVP baseball. I thought Richard Hidalgo was really good, probably was but he didn't have a long career. There was also Troy Glaus. He was someone I played with a lot on that game. Turns out he was just an average slugger considering it was the steroid era.

Brett Tomko.
In that game, had no idea why, he could throw 100
used him all the time, had big time velocity in that game. Turns out, he was a mediocre reliever.
