how to be qualified for top D1 cinferences Topic

currently i am coaching Winthrop in naismith...it was a rebuild and I have been there for 8 seasons...and another 6 previously with about a dozen seasons in between, not coaching in naismith.

Every school says a step backwards and the other 3 or 4 say not qualified. conf. champ last 7 seasons, CT champ 6 of last 7 seasons. What should I be doing if I'd like to coach a school like Virginia tech? thank you for your response guys, much appreciated

Generally you need a few seasons, 3-4, of at least 2nd round or an occasional sweet 16 or better to move to a Big 6 was my expierence

I'm in a semi similar situation, But mine says longshot or keep looking for a lot of the teams, what does that mean to his close I am to being qualified.

It is actually easier to go from D2 (if you are one of the top few, teams consistently) to Big 6 than to take the midmajor stepping stone.

you will never qualify for any B+ or better job from where you are without 20+ seasons of consistent NT bids. Everything will also be a step backwards and you'll have to endure the loyalty hit. But I guess it's not really a big problem or anything

It only takes 10 seasons into consideration...

Anyways, the job logic is flawed.

Not winning a tourney game is definitely holding you back. As others have alluded to, the jobs logic is pretty bad. If a big 6 school drops to a low enough prestige you'll qualify for it, even without a NT victory under your belt.

Here's the thing; there's a way to do it. However, there is a trap in jumping to a low D1 team and thinking that you'll get to your choice of Big6 jobs. You won't. State was destroyed when I arrived. You may need to move to the worst Big 6 job, rather than holding out for the one that you want first. Here are my seasons at UAB before jumping to NC State in Season 84:

Season 83: UAB
22-9 (overall)/13-3 (conf), RPI: 83
Regular Season Conference Champion
Postseason Invitational - 2nd Round
Conference Coach of the Year

Season 82: UAB
19-12 (overall)/8-8 (conf), RPI: 92
Postseason Invitational - 1st Round

Season 81: UAB
14-15 (overall)/7-9 (conf), RPI: 88
Postseason Invitational - 1st Round

Season 80: UAB
12-16 (overall)/7-9 (conf), RPI: 151

Season 79: UAB
16-11 (overall)/6-10 (conf), RPI: 163

Five Seasons - no NT bids. In fact, here's what the season prior to UAB looked like...D3 PIT.

Season 74: St. Thomas
18-15 (overall)/9-7 (conf), RPI: 38
Postseason Invitational - Final Four

Folks will ***** like mad, because there is a trap...and I'm not saying there isn't, but there are paths to a Big 6 team.

It's really like a maze trying to get an elite D-1 job.

but if there was like a problem or something with the job logic I'm sure they would've fixed it by now, right?

right guys?
