that goes for your training for individual players (in the 130 points and you allocate, say 12 points to the individual player in defense) and not the overall defense of press? Just trying to clarify.
As stated, you'll want 20-25 in the TEAM defense (which impacts IQ development).
For individual PLAYER practice plans, the amount you'll want to allocate will depend their remaining growth. Players in red are at/near their max and will grow very little over the course of the season...if they're an underclassman, it might be best to allocate 6-7 minutes (possibly even less), which won't create growth, but will prevent all but maybe a 1-point loss over the course of the season (and if you do lose a point, you can change the plan, jack it up by a few minutes until you recover the point and then lower once more).
On the other hand, if their defense rating is blue, indicating there's 21+ points of growth available in the category, then you might want 12-20 points in the category (depending on GPA and other attributes that need attention and practice time as well...) to facilitate rapid development and growth. Average (black) potential will, obviously, float somewhere between the two extremes because you want to encourage development during the season.
On average, I'd say Def is probably the No. 2 category where I spend practice minutes on the player plans (behind conditioning). Almost always so for post players since it develops both Def and SB abilities.
