Palmeiro - if we knew he never did steroids - doesn't belong in the Hall? Not sure how you come to that conclusion.
Lets forget about steroids for the time being. Palmeiro was a good player for a long time. He was never a great player. he was never the top player at his position during his career. I doubt he was ever one of the top 5 players at any position. Very good but not a HoFamer

Anybody voting Biggio/Bagwell are voting Palmeiro without 'roids. Simple fact.

Bagwell was significantly better than Palmeiro.

Wylie - am I missing something here?

Lets say he didn't do PEDs. Just look at his numbers.

569 HRs (13th)
1800 RBIs (16th)
1600 Runs (32nd)
1300 BBs. In fact, more BBs than Ks.(33rd)
.885 OPS
3 GGs

Sure, he didn't have any magical years, but he was a consistent top run producer. If he had started playing 10 years earlier, he'd be first ballot.

The horse you rode in on?

Palmeiro is one of only 4 players to ever amass 500 homers and 3,000 hits. Even if you chalk some of that up to longevity, it's still hall of fame worthy. Many people have had long careers and haven't come close to those numbers.

Career 132 OPS+. There are 2 other guys who were primarily first basemen with a 132 career OPS+: Joe Harris and Mo Vaughn. Is that HOF material?

To be fair, there were about 5 years there in which it did look very much like Mo Vaughn might be on his way to the HOF. A lot more like a HOFer than Palmeiro ever felt. He did win an MVP, right?

If I look at BL's favorite stat - WARRRRR -didn't Palmeiro have a better WAR than Vaughn just about every year they both played - including the MVP one?

Should my wife be jealous? You seem to spend a lot of time thinking about me.

look, you are entitled to think Palmeiro belongs in the hall, just as I am entitled to think he doesn't. Let's just agree to disagree. Doesn't really matter because I don't think either of us is ever going to have a vote.

Palmeiro fell off the ballot after 4 tries, never getting higher than 12.6% of the vote. Sosa is in danger of falling off the ballot next year as he only received 7% of the vote last year.

Manny Ramirez is on the ballot next year. Curious to see how voters treat him!

Vaughn belongs in the hall even less than Palmeiro

I thought that was my point?

So "no" on Joe Harris?
