Career 132 OPS+. There are 2 other guys who were primarily first basemen with a 132 career OPS+: Joe Harris and Mo Vaughn. Is that HOF material?
To be fair, there were about 5 years there in which it did look very much like Mo Vaughn might be on his way to the HOF. A lot more like a HOFer than Palmeiro ever felt. He did win an MVP, right?
There are certain benchmarks in baseball that make guys a lock for the HOF (barring PEDs) - 500 HR, 3,000 hits, 300 wins, 3,000 Ks.
Palmeiro had two of the four. If he hadn't tested positive, he'd be in.
