it will default to the punter

Yes, your punter will take over kicking duties. It really shouldn't hurt you very much at all.

Just crank down your FG distance and you should be fine.

Also be sure to put some practice time into kicking for the punter. I have had only a K for my MN team for 2 seasons now and I did notice a marked improvement in his punting when I started to dedicate punting practice minutes.

I always have my punter practice kicking (about 70% punting, 30% kicking), and vica versa for my kicker.

It's no big deal. I run without a kicker sometimes.

Thanks for this post. Didn't even realize there was now Punting and Kicking in the practice plan. I guess I should have paid more attention when the engine flipped.

This bum is my D2 punter that will now need to boot field goals. What max distance is appropriate?

He is pretty good. I wouldn't be afraid of high 40's or even 50 yards.

50+ . Do not be afraid. He is excellent for d2. I am currently running with no kicker for long time. Just a punter who covers both duties.

Regardless of who I have (or level) I set FG range at 53 yards.

I only carry both a K and a P if a great one falls into my lap. You only need to carry one of the two IMHO

FWIW this guy sucked kicking FGs this season

What about not having a Kicker or a Punter? Both my K and P were seniors last year, so I had to play an exhibition game with my redshirt freshman QB playing both duties. Interestingly enough, he was able to average 32 yards per punt on 6 punts and made all 7 extra points. I wish he would've been able to try a field goal though. His kickoffs weren't awful either, usually from the 15-25.

Two problems with this, as one who has experimented:

1) You give up 10-15 yards of field position on every exchange of punts, if you average ~ 30-35 yards and opponent averages 40-45. That probably leads to at least one additional score surrendered per game, and most teams can't afford that.
2) I found that because there are so few touchbacks and shorter kicks, I gave up significantly worse field position on returns, including a number of KR and PR TDs despite having average ST ratings at a level with my opponents.

In other words, even though the stats don't look terrible, the impact on the rest of the game is more than you think. I'll get to experience this with my Gopher squad, as I realized I just forgot to recruit a K/P - whoops.
