with respect to the "stamina doesn't matter much" comment, just remember that stamina is the one rating you really can't box in, in terms of importance. stamina ranges from one of the least important attributes to the single most important attribute, depending on the player and situation. there are four trend lines within stamina importance:
- the better the player, the more stamina matters
- the higher the player is on the depth chart, the more stamina matters
- the more fatigue the team faces overall (from set, tempo, and depth), the more stamina matters
- the better the team, especially in d1 (EEs), the more stamina matters
i think most of these are basically self evident, but the one that may not be obvious is the last one. foul/fatigue combo trouble is generally one of the most stubborn sources of a loss to stamp out, for great teams. when playing uneven matches in your favor, having more depth clearly helps limit the volatility from foul/fatigue troubles. so that is where stamina comes into play.
just a couple examples to illustrate the differences:
for a d2 motion/zone team, 12 deep with an even rotation, season goal of playing for a NT bid: the stamina on the 11th or 12th man basically doesn't even matter. 50 vs 100 is a slight difference, but that's it. for the star player on the team though, stamina will typically still be a core rating. the better the player, the bigger margin they usually have over their backup, but really its the margin over the backup that is the driver - every extra minute you can play that superior starter helps your team in a pretty significant way. still, because the team isn't that worried about foul/fatigue edge cases, because the system itself is low-fatigue, because there is great depth, stamina won't be nearly as important as those top line cores, per in your sg, ath/reb in your pf, etc.
for a d1 motion/press team, 10 deep with an even rotation, season goal of playing for a NT championship: with only 10 players, fouls and fatigue are a huge concern. stamina is a significant core for every single player on the team, generally top 3 for every player, being the #1 or #2 rating for at least a couple. that kind of team's lead per scorer likely has some insane spd, per, bh ratings already, and is a very solid defender. if they are a pg, they probably have 90+ pass. generally, for that kind of player, stamina is going to be THE most important rating - around the margin (meaning, if you took the player, offered him a point in anything, stamina would be the best selection). fatigue hits pretty hard so avoiding it is very important. even for my 12 deep d1 press title-seeking teams, stamina is usually the top core for a couple of my players, and top 3 for most of the top 10.
