A "bimodal distribution" is a statistical term for a graph with two modes. Usually, the graph looks like there are 2 humps like the ones on the back of a camel...but I digress.
I enjoy drafting and managing a "real" team. A team that has a bit of everything: a few stars, a number of journeymen, a few guys having awful years, and a bunch of role players. As the journeymen and the role players make up most of your average team, they produce the 2 humps.
STEPS TO SUCCESS:
1. Select 4 players that are stars. They must be your 4 highest salaried players and add up to $30 million of your team. One of these stars must stand out as your "face of your franchise", worth at least $2 million more than the next best guy, and needs to be in your team's name. Stars can come from any franchise.
2. Select 7 journeymen. They must be your next 7 highest salaried players and add up to $35 million of your team. Each of these players must have salaries below $5 million and come from the same franchise. Position players must have at least 500 PA or an OPS lower than .850 (Note that you can have a player with fewer than 500 PA but they must have an OPS < .850; players with > 500 PA can have any OPS). Pitchers considered to be journeymen must have at least 100 IP or have a WHIP above 1.20 (similar to position players, pitchers can have any WHIP if they have > 100 IP, but must have a WHIP > 1.20 if they have fewer than 100 IP).
3. Select 2 off years. They must be your next 2 highest salaried players and add up to 5 million. These players must have at least 500 PA or 100 IP. In addition, these players must have at least 4 years with a higher salary than the season you draft. These tricky roster spots can be drafted from any franchise.
4. Select 9 role players. They must be your next 9 highest salaried players and add up to $9.4 million of your team. Each of these players must have salaries below $2 million and come from the same franchise as the journeymen. Position players must have at least 120 PA. Pitchers must have at least 30 IP.
5. Select 3 scrubs. These 3 players are expected to be sent down for AAA players to contribute. These last 3 players are each expected to cost $200K and come from the same franchise as the journeymen.
