The thing I like about it is the amount of time AVAILABLE to do it. It does not have to be crowded into a 36 hour window like now. I probably have spent 2 times as much as I normally do in beta - BUT - I didn't absolutely have to do that. I find the budget to be very sufficient to do a lot of scouting in states I would not normally consider. Plus, I find the different options interesting, so I enjoy the ability to dig deeper and do more research, so that I can have a really solid list of main targets and a good list of backups.
You could get a very solid list of prospects in like 15 minutes by doing this.
Host a camp in your state, and possibly attend a camp in your region. (1 minute)
Look at the targets you have discovered. With FSS you have all of them. (I would FSS a wider area than you do now, especially at D1).
Find the targets that look halfway decent based on the letter grades. The letter grades may change to vague numbers according to some discussions.
You can select all of those targets in one step, and scout all of them to the next level.
Look at them again at the next level.
Scout the ones that still look good to the next level, again in one step.
You now have your list.
The extra steps are doing the camps, which takes about a minute, and scouting multiple targets to the next level, which would probably take about 10-15 minutes if you spend time sorting through them at that stage.
At that point, if you are in D1, you will probably still have a lot of scouting $$ Left, so you may also want to scout other states or internationals. It's not a bad idea to scout some states that are at a greater distance to see if there are any players that match up well with you in terms of preferences, and that also want to play far from home, because you will have an advantage on those players over close by schools.
I have had very good success in beta recruiting players that are outside of the normal geographic area I tend to look at now. Right now, I almost always stay under 360 miles because the cost goes up so much. In this game the cost does not jump at artificial levels, so I can look at a 370 mile away player and he's about the same cost as a 350 mile away one.
Again, the thing I like is I can do this at my leisure, instead of being forced into a super short window. I can do it at a time when I am bored and want to spend time on the game.
