1981 draft starts on Monday - Free team! Topic

The long-running Real Life Progressive league is looking for a new San Francisco Giants owner. This team needs one more year to get its pitching staff back at full force, and is stocked long-term players at key positions. Vida Blue and Bob Forsch are aces in 1981, so you can draft starters for that year, or plan on 1982, when the starting staff has four excellent ones and will make a playoff run. Take this one year rebuild and crush it in 1982!

This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 1981, Cal Ripken Jr., Ryne Sandberg and several others are "Prospects" that can be drafted -- they started their career in 1981 but were not WIS eligible. A prospect would join any players you have on the DL until he is WIS eligible. Draft order is based on reversed standings at game 120 (with a minimum wins rule). Draft slots are based on your number of keepers. Keep 20 and you get 5 draft rounds. If you select a prospect in the 1st round (meaning someone who played in 1981 but wasn't WIS eligible), you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 1981 season, and a DH is used in the AL.
