Thanks. That's a great way to look at it.

I obviously made a huge error in not allowing enough innings. My thinking was to upgrade my hitting (they all slumped from the very first game) and have such great pitching that they could keep the scores low. That didn't work either. My hitters greatly underperformed and so did my pitching staff...which is mostly in the red...a disaster for this early in the season and probably not reversible, because sim continues to play my pitchers that are in the red and totally fatigued, despite my settings.

15 Arrieta...8.60 ERA
14 Kershaw 8.23
68 Gibson 4.31
Most of my great relievers have a 7.00 ERA or worse

12.77 million Ruth hitting .203, but recently got his 2nd and 3rd home run and busted through the Mendosa line
96 A-Rod hitting .200
12 Posey hitting .197
15 harper hitting .232...his recent hitting streak pushed him over the Mendosa
06 Cabrera hitting .221
Well, you get the idea...terrible start, especially since I didn't draft enough innings.

In 2008, there was a Round 1 theme, called "Bet the Over". I don't remember the exact details, but suffice it to say, a lot of people didn't draft enough innings.

Check out the range of the W-L records...

https://www.whatifsports.com/mlb-l/WISChampionship2008.asp

Check out wetwillytwo's results from this league and his other leagues. I remember that I had to sacrifice on of my starters to keep everybody else out of the Red.
8/10/2016 5:19 PM (edited)
ya I won that league.....good times......although I think wetwilly was in my division so that made it easier.......poor guy.....
8/10/2016 5:22 PM
Wow... if anyone remembers, would love to hear what that one was all about
8/10/2016 5:39 PM
I remember that league; It looks like my team won 99 games, which made it my most successful team that year, and yet I didn't even come close to making the playoffs! I think something like 110 wins was probably the minimum to make the playoffs in that theme.
8/10/2016 6:20 PM
It appears the only rule of this theme was that the maximum salary you could spend on pitching was $40 million, which left $100 million for hitting. Oh, and it was a DH league.
8/10/2016 6:26 PM
I don't play many themes over $100M. I would guess that pitches thrown per inning would be at least a couple more above $120M. I tend to draft conservatively, especially out of my comfort zone...
8/10/2016 6:29 PM
That league was the inspiration for the term "Spider", which is defined in the first post of the "WISC Lingo" thread.
8/10/2016 10:47 PM
I am pretty sure I won the WS in that league (won 115 games) and that was the year I won it all, mostly thanks to that team. I still remember that Danny MacFayden was on that team and I still love him to this day.

Comparing the cookie factor chart to wins, and grouping the average wins by every 12 owners, there does seem to be an advantage to rostering the more "popular" players.
