mildnhazy,

I went with Koufax, Sutton, Tiant and Arrieta, and they are getting pounded as well. My pitching stats and yours are remarkably similar. My apologies if the comparison with me upsets you.

W L IP H R ER HR BB SO OAV OBP SLG WHIP ERA
Me 30 35 588.1 598 375 361 109 303 610 .258 .348 .439 1.55 5.52
You 32 33 587.2 645 377 362 110 238 620 .274 .345 .462 1.50 5.54

I think we both went wrong with our stadium choice: Briggs for you, Tiger Stadium for me (different name, same place). Compare our pitching with waitnsee, who chose similar pitchers but went with Dodger Stadium as his park. He is having more success in this theme than us. Guess that's why he's the champ.

Hey tigerrott - appreciate your input.
However, several things are worth mentioning:
1) Your Koufax and Arrieta are pitching Cy Young worthy seasons compared to my guys at the moment.
2) You are asking for trouble with Tiant, Sutton and Koufax in a homer league. You can't compare them to my guys. Maddux, Brown and Pedro all have significantly lower hr/9 and hr/9+ and should be performing better than your trio all else being equal.
3) Yes, Briggs is a homer park and they should be giving up more homers than the average. However it is a negative singles and doubles park which should help their WHIP overall (and perhaps help balance out the ERA due to that). Their WHIPs are out of control.
4) You have 17 (-) plays. I have 2. That could be a reason why your pitching is having trouble.
5) As for the WaitNSee part - his team ERA at home and away are virtually the same so I don't think it is a Dodger Stadium thing.

mildnhazy,

Thanks for the response. I admit I have been luckier than you, and you drafted better than me. I just found it interesting that my pitching and yours were so similar.

I was thinking about division alignment. I noticed that I seem to be in the division with at least 2 tough teams frequently (in 5 of 6 leagues, the wildcard comes from my division). Since the goal is to make the playoffs, a better measurement of division toughness is to count the number of wins by the SECOND place team in each of your divisions. The best second place team gets the wildcard. If you have a good record but are third best in your division, you are out of luck.

The following table pulls the win total of each division's second place team. I then sorted by the total of all six of your leagues..;

This is updated through 66 games... Sure enough, the second place teams in my six divisions are on a pace to win 91.6 games.

My millionaire team has lost 13 straight games, including 9 to my division rivals. Enough is enough boys, we need a W now!

Mort Cooper has to turn around eventually, right? I mean, this is the 80M LEAGUE! He makes up 10% of my team's salary!

Nor I!

I had a horrible three-day stretch with a combined 16-38 record. Except for that, my teams have won at a .537 clip. I'm pleased with that.
8/24/2016 3:11 PM
Just lost 2 big series where I had a significantly higher run differential. Ugh

It seems like the fall in the standings after a 2-4 set is much greater than the rise in the standings after going 4-2.

That's because the teams ahead of you are better and likely keep winning, so it's harder to gain.
8/26/2016 9:31 AM
Yep. I actually went 4-2 this morning and lost 1 spot in the standings.
